Girl or Boy Cake
Ingredients
- 1 Box white cake mix
- Eggs
- Water
- 2 cups Vanilla frosting
- 1 small bottle of food coloring- pink and blue
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a nine inch round pan with butter or use parchment paper for baking to line it. As per directed on the cake mix box, in a large bowl, add the water, eggs and vegetable oil to make the cake batter. Divide the quantity of the batter into three equal portions and pour two portions into two smaller bowls. In one bowl of cake batter, add 10 drops of the pink food color and mix well. In the other bowl of cake batter, add 10 drops of the blue food color and mix well. Now in the round baking pan, bake the blue batter first, then the white and then the pink for about 20 minutes each. To check if it is done, insert a tooth pick into the cake, if it comes out clean, it means it is done. Remove from the oven and let it cool for about an hour. Then empty the blue layer on to a flat plate, top side down. Smear 1/3rd cup of vanilla frosting onto the blue layer and on top of this place the white layer. Smear another1/3rd cup of frosting on this layer and top of it place the pink layer. Smear this layer too. With 1 cup frosting, store covered loosely.
Building Block Cake
Ingredients
- 3 frozen pound cakes
- 1 small bottle of food coloring- pink, yellow and blue
- 1 tube prepared white icing with screw-on plastic star tip
- 1 Glass filled with hot water
- 1 16-oz. container pink strawberry icing
- 2 16-oz. containers white, vanilla, or cream-cheese icing
Using a ruler, cut the frozen pound cake into 3, three inch slices of cake and trim the edges to create a cube like appearance for the slices. For the frosting, take some white frosting in a medium-sized bowl and add blue food coloring to this. Using a hand blender, mix and blend the color well into the white frosting. Repeat the same procedure for the pink and yellow frosting. Refrigerate the frosting for a while before use. Then, dip a sharp-edged knife into the glass of hot water and frost the cake cubes, one in pink, one in blue and one in yellow. Using the white icing tube, draw a letter or number on each of the cubes and arrange them in such a way that the blue and pink are placed side by side and the yellow one rested on the top edges of the blue and pink cube.
Baby Shower Diaper Cakes
Baby shower diaper cakes can make a very creative centerpiece at the baby shower celebrations. A baby shower diaper cake is made of diapers and other essential items for the baby that are rolled and stacked together in the form of a cake and makes a unique and wonderful gift for the mom-to-be. Here’s how you can make a baby shower diaper cake.
Supplies Needed
- 50 diapers
- 1 inch wide ribbons - pink or blue
- Rubber bands - large and small
- 1 large baby feeding bottle
- 1 plastic cake platter
- Baby items - Pacifiers, bottles, lotion, bibs, receiving blankets, and miniature stuffed animals, baby towel, onesie, wash cloths, baby hygiene products, toys, etc.
- Cake decorations
To begin with, for the first tier unfold 12 of the diapers and roll them up tightly. Secure them with small rubber bands tied at the center of each roll. These will form the inner diapers for the diaper cake. On a plastic cake platter, place the large baby feeding bottle at the center and arrange the rolled up diapers around it. Secure the feeding bottle with the diapers using a large rubber band. Next, repeat the same procedure with the remaining 24 diapers to form a second ring. Place the second ring around the first ring and secure it with a large rubber band. Now tie small ribbons forms into a bow at the center of each diaper of the second ring and secure all the rings with a large ribbon piece. Form the second tier in a similar manner using the remaining 14 diapers, but make only a single ring and place it on top of the first tier. Stuff all the baby items in between the diapers and decorate with the cake decorations.
