A pleasant room with creamy white walls, soft pastel curtains that mingle with the fragrant, gentle breeze coming from the windows and tenderly make way for the soft rays of the sun to enter the baby’s room and illuminate it with a thousand splendid suns. A baby’s room is essentially one of the most tranquil places in a house where everything seems soft, cozy and peaceful.

Decorating the baby’s room is a task that needs to be taken care of before the arrival of the baby. Choosing the right color for the walls and ensuring sufficient illumination and fresh air might be some of the points to keep in mind. However, one of the most important tasks while decorating a baby’s room is choosing the right baby furniture that is beautiful and functional.

Essential Baby Furniture

A baby crib is perhaps the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about baby furniture. The options available are plenty – canopy cribs, convertible cribs, pirate theme cribs or even a princess theme crib. You can also have cradles or bassinets however the main disadvantage of this is that it can be used until the baby begins to roll which is generally somewhere around four months after birth.

You need to choose a crib that suits the color scheme that you have in mind, the space available and obviously the one that suits your budget. The cribs are to be made comfy-cozy with some beautiful and functional baby crib bedding. Comfortable mattresses, soft pillows, crib sheets, waterproof mattress covers, crib wedges and crib toys are just some of the accessories that you can use. Make sure you don’t have too many things going on at a time. Keep the crib comfortable with minimum number of items, too much clutter can cause discomfort for the baby. Avoid too many crib-toys, and the ones that are too loud or have flashing lights – anything that is simple and will not scare the baby can be used.

Often when we hear parents talking about their babies, one of the things that you’ll hear for sure is about the diaper changing sessions. Changing tables are a must-have element of baby furniture. Make sure you get a changing table that has safety straps or some other mechanism for ensuring the baby’s safety and adequate drawers or shelves to have enough storage space for the changing pads, clean wipes and all the other essential things. A diaper disposal system like the ‘diaper genie’ is also essential.

Another must-have item in the baby furniture list is of course a dresser or chest of drawers for storage of clothes, medicines, and all other essentials. There are various styles and colors available in the market, pick one that fits the bill for you.

In addition to the above-mentioned pre-requisites, there are many other things that you can include in your baby’s nursery. Getting a rocking chair might also be a great idea where you can just sit with your baby and spent some time together. A playpen can also be a great idea, which will add an element of fun and frolic to the baby’s room. A baby stroller, car seat and may be an audio or video monitor for the baby’s safety are the other things that you can include in the baby’s room.
