Babies Sleeping in a Baby Car Seat - Is it Safe?

Some parents leave their children sleeping in their child car seats even in the house for hours on end..... but is it safe? Read our full article to find out!
Most car seats that are available to buy in the United Kingdom give good support to your babys head and neck. A couple of the biggest benefits of car seats with carry handles is the ability to transport your child in and out of the house and car without having to wake them up.

Of course the main reason for a car seat is being able to transport your child safely when traveling by car. You may think lifting your babies child car seat into and out of the vehicle would be a big hassle for having to fit it over again but most childs car seats fit back into the car very simply. Once you have fitted the seat or fitted your child into the car seat, check the seat over to make sure it is installed securely. We recommend you to do this before each journey.

Although car seats are comfy enough for your baby, try and avoid having them in their baby seat for prolonged periods of time all in one go. We advise that when on long journeys you take short frequent breaks so that you don't feel tired. There is another good reason for short regular breaks - your baby gets a chance to have a break from sitting in their baby car seat.

To believe it or not some people actually leave their baby in the car in their seat while they are out of the car. Many babies are left sitting in their baby car seat whilst they are in the house for far too long per day. Very premature babies could suffer breathing difficulties if left in this same position for longer than necessary. Some babies are a lot more likely to vomit when sat in that position if they suffer with gastric reflux. We recommend that, no matter how healthy your baby is, that you don't leave them in their buggy or baby car seat for longer than needed.

Whenever a pram or crib is available to use for your baby to sleep in you should use either of those instead of a baby seat carrier. Overall it's safe for a healthy baby to sleep in their baby car seat for only a few hours at a time. We recommend that you do not leave them in their car seat for much longer than this.
