Avoid Carbohydrate Addiction and Live a Healthy Life
Many people suffer from carbohydrate addiction and don’t even know it. The good thing is that there are a few easy things you can do in order to avoid it and start feeling better right away.
Are you sluggish and tired in the morning when you wake up? Do you have to push your self to finish out your day? Do you often wish you had more energy? If you answered yes to any of these questions then you probably have carbohydrate addiction.
This is a problem that is very under-estimated. I recently discovered that I had this problem. After researching this subject and getting all the tools I needed to reverse this vicious cycle, I started trying what research suggested. I felt great! This whole time I kept thinking I was just meant to be unmotivated, sluggish and tired. Man, was I happy to find out that wasn’t true!
There are a lot of others who don’t know this. Some childhood favorites are pizza, chicken nuggets, and cheeseburgers, all high in carbohydrate. What happens to the body when these types of white carbs enter they quickly turn into sugar causing a huge spike in sugar. Eventually our body will expect that "high" and become addicted to the carb.
When I get tired or upset as an adult, I still crave those foods that I had as a child to make me feel comforted, prolonging the addiction. The key to this problem is awareness and remembering that all carbs are not created equally.
You know how your Mom always made you eat your broccoli? Well, now I know why this is so important, fiber. Fiber slows your body’s digestive system down; therefore, eating a whole grain piece of toast with fiber would not spike your sugar near as bad as a piece of white bread with no fiber.
Fruits and vegetables pack in a lot of fiber and are very nutrient rich. Being aware of what you are eating and getting the right nutrients is a very important part of feeling good. In conclusion, if you add a fruit and vegetable with every meal you will feel a huge difference in the way you feel throughout the day.
Checking nutrition labels for fiber content versus sugar content is a good way to find out just how much fiber you are getting out of your food. So, if you think you are a carb addict, reverse your habits today and feel better tomorrow.
