Autobiography of 2011: The Year That Was
It was a joy ride like never before, but hey wasn't this exactly what you all expected out of me? Like all good things in life, my days too have come to an end and today is the last day. So let's spare some time and look into the rear-view mirror to see what we witnessed together.

I was lucky to have been a witness to some of the great historical events. We finally achieved the Cup of Life that we were waiting for 28 long years, yes India won the 2011 cricket world cup. Can you show me one man who did not shout out loud 'INDIAAAA... INDIAAAAA... Oh God what a night! It was bigger than any festival ever celebrated. Recalling the past always gets me excited but I have to control my emotions. You don't restrict yourself, read as you please; replace expressions like 'oh God' with "oh... " (whatever you like) !
It's flabbergasting how events turn out to make world news. Now who would have thought that I would strike gold, by gold I mean really gold, lots and lots of gold. I discovered gold worth more than 20 billion USD. That temple really made heads turn.
Unlike my other sister years it was the year of protest, protest against corruption. I must admit that little fellow Anna is quite a man. It's amazing how a simple man can bring down an empire with only one weapon - non-violence. Everyone was talking about Lokpal. Anna made the whole country dance to the tune of Lokpal. It was a slap in the face of people who believed that Gandhi's time was different and other such mumbo-jumbo.
Again as I said, "The one who has come, has to go". It's too sad that I witnessed the loss of some real gems, whom the world cannot recreate again. The world mourned when the news arrived that Steve Jobs is no more. Even though his iProducts are always launched a year late in India, Indians never missed to acknowledge his genius. And then there was again, we lost the ultimate, the Evergreen Dev Anand. I will be left short of words to describe what he meant to us. But life never waits, the show must go on.
We still dance to the tunes of "Kolaveri Di", admit it, you loved the song. What did you say the song had no meaning? Well I don't even care, the song's mission was to entertain us and it did a pretty good job I must say. The Youtube views said it all! There were a few infamous names which perished with time. What can I say; the world celebrated the deaths of Gaddafi, Kim Jong and yes not to forget the face of terrorism Osama Bin Laden.
The only thing permanent in life is change and then again there is our Honourable P.M. Mr. Manmohan Singh's silence ~ he was silent throughout 2011. It's sad but what can we do, we don't even know how to elect a good governing body, amidst all the scams that our ministers have bestowed upon us whom we are so grateful to.
One Kapil Sibal became quite famous and even won an award for the most stupid minister ever. His statements, comments, rules frankly speaking infuriated me. I must ask what sense does it make to censor facebook posts and tweets and then you call yourself the biggest democracy in the world where you have freedom of speech!
Sometimes I think how long can we keep our forehead wrinkled? We need to relax. We cannot keep thinking and worrying ourselves about the rupee value falling down, petrol price hike every other week, Foreign direct investment (FDI), Baby B's name?! ... so many problems we faced. Thank God we have our indisputable Salman Khan who's relaxing songs soothe our worries away. Talking about Bachchans, I almost forgot Amitabh Bachchan's Kaun Banega Crorepati got its first 5 crore jackpot winner this year. Tell me why shouldn't I feel proud of myself.
I guess it was too much for a year. So on my last day, I wish many more happenings for my sister 2012. And don't worry there are many more lined up 2013, 2014 and so on. (if only the world chooses not to end in 2012).
