Common Auto Repair Questions and Answers

Q #1: What are the things in the car maintenance checklist you need to see before you take the car out of the driveway?

Answer
The first thing, which is the most obvious is the fuel check. First ensure there is enough fuel in the tank and then we move on to the battery. It is good to check if the car battery is charged enough, before you get the car out of the garage. It will be a good idea to check the level of coolant if you would be going on a long expedition. Finally, see if the brake pads are in proper order.

Q #2: What has to be the course of action when you get a check engine light on your dashboard?

Answer
The check engine light comes on only when there is something wrong in relation with engine. If you have tried checking and fixing the probable solutions to this problem, then the last resort is to take it to a mechanic. He will sort out your problem by analyzing exactly what is the problem. In quite a few instances the problem may not be very serious, but these car problems would have to be resolved sometime.

Q #3: When the car is taken to the mechanic, is it mandatory to follow all the suggestions and recommendations?

Answer
If you have a fair idea of what state your car is in, you can do away with the unnecessary 'add-ons' suggested by the mechanic. It is obvious that the mechanic and the adviser would receive additional income if you are lured into getting those add-ons. Hence, it is definitely not a must to adhere to each and every suggestion or auto repair information given by him.

Q #4: When is it the correct time to consider changing the tires?

Answer
Cords seen through the rubber, tires with tread wear and bulges, frequent punctures and quite a few are the indications that you need to change the tires. If there is a small amount of tread on your car tires, it is time to replace them.

Q #5: What could be the reason for squeaky brakes? Does it mean that the brakes pads are having a problem?

Answer
Yes, there is a chance that your brake pads might be worn out or there is not enough brake fluid. Probably that needs to be checked out.

Q #6: Why doesn't the starter crank? Or in simple words why isn't the car starting?

Answer
In this case, your problem could be a dead battery. To check this problem, you can use a battery tester. This will help you tell if the car battery is dead or in a working condition. If the battery is in a good condition, may be the starter monitor has to be seen for any fault along with starter cables and things connected with it.

Well, you can't really deal with all the auto repair questions at one go and in fact it will be really a tough ask to do that! However I can think of auto repair estimates which need to be kept in mind during an auto repair especially when taken to a mechanic.

Jokes apart, auto repair insurance is another aspect which is an important one when it comes to auto repair. But car insurance will come into picture only if your car undergoes serious damage due to any circumstance, like an accident or the likes.

So all in all what questions come up during auto repair, depends on how you use the car and how much you use it and maintain it! All the best!
