Auto Insurance Companies Hit Hard by Auto Industry

The automobile industry is in a financial crisis, and it is not helping auto insurance companies at all. More branches and jobs are being slashed to reduce its deficit and to avoid bankruptcy.
As more automakers give gloomy sales numbers, more auto insurance companies are laying-off workers and increasing car insurance rates. It is astounding how one industry can affect the other.

In 2009, drivers could end up paying 11 percent more on auto insurance. Therefore, consumers should look for ways to reduce their car insurance by themselves. They can start by calling their auto insurance agent for different quotes and inquire about these topics:

1. Their driving record

Depending on how well you drive and how clean their record is, they should be able to receive some discounts for their car insurance. Telling your agent about your driving record would be ideal in this case because he or she does not keep tabs of your driving history.

2. Safety

Having safety features on a car would help consumers save a significant amount of money. Consumers should check to see if they have some of the following features:

• Four-wheel drive
• Anti-lock breaks
• Seat belts
• Air bags
• Car alarm

3. Having too much coverage

Consumers can be insured for almost everything, but it does not necessarily mean that they need it all. They should always choose coverage options that fit their lifestyles and their residencies. If they live in Florida, for example, they do not need earthquake insurance as additional coverage. However, they may want flood coverage.

4. Deductible

For people to save money on auto insurance, they will have to increase their deductible to receive a low premium. This means that the auto insurance provider will end up paying less for damages their clients caused due do to an incident or collision.

5. Other Alternatives

Sometimes, consumers simply can not find the right auto insurer for their needs. To get over this, they should search for alternatives by investigating several different insurance quotes at once. Very often does one insurance agency offers better coverage plans at a lower price than another. And insurance agents constantly compete in finding consumers adequate coverage options at affordable rates.

On a special note, consumers should always their insurance premiums with other insurance quotes around their area. The more options they have, the more able they will be to save money on rising auto insurance costs.
