Set up sometime by Garhwal Mandal Vikas, Auli skiing resort invites tourist from different parts of the world. Measuring a vertical drop of 500 meters, the destination is beautified with snow fields. During winter season(December to March), GMVN organizes skiing courses for the adventure-seekers. The session ranges from 2 days to 14 days and charges Rs. 3, 500 per person.
The ski slopes in Auli descends from 3049 m to 2915 m. Most of the places are dotted with oak and conifer tree, which acts as a barrier for skiers. Yet, many dare to face all challenges and enjoy the 180 degree view of the Himalayan peaks. Nanda Devi Parvat, Kamet, Mana Parvat and Dunagiri hills are additional punch to the seekers.
Joshimath is well-connected to Auli by means of a 4-km long ropeway, set up in 1994. It has 10 towers and two cabin, each with an accommodation capacity of 25 people at a time.
