"So good news I hope..." I say to G
"Great news" he says and picks me up and hugs me. Then with one slight motion he kisses me like he always did, however this time it meant something because he was now single...well he was now mine.
"So what happened? How did she break up with you?"
"I don't know I was on my way out to leave and when I went to say goodbye to her that's when she told me she wanted to break up because she didn't have feelings for me anymore plus she already met someone else"
"I hope you acted a little sad so she knows you weren't playing her" I say
"I did I did but don't worry everything's cool now. I can be with you" he says and kisses me
"Awesome" I say and we continue on with our day
Over the next couple of weeks G and I became more than friends. We became a couple. We didn't inform our parents about this but I guess we will have to one day but not now. Nick is still staying at his cousin's house. I am guessing he will be there until I go back to my moms...whatever...he's better off there anyway.
"Hey mom it's nice to hear from you...I miss you" I tell her
"I know honey I am so glad you called me...I have been worried sick about you"
"Why? I am fine...did I mention that I have a boyfriend?" I say and laugh
"Oh my god, NO! Who is he?"
"Gennarro!"
"No way oh wow congrats on that one...how did you manage that" she asks me and I tell her the whole story.
My mother and I continue to gossip as we always do until I see G walk into my room.
"Finally" I say and hop off my bed to hug him
Gennarro hugs me for a long time and he just holds me in his arms. We are acting like this because he has been at his cousin's house for the past week trying to spend some time with his brother and work things out so we haven't been able to see each other.
"This reminds me of something my parents said when I was a little girl" I tell him as he is hugging me
"Oh yeah...what?" he asks sweetly
"Well the day I found out about my parents getting divorced I was so young and I just lost all hope in loving someone. My parents actually wrote me a letter because I was upset so much that I went to sleep over my grandparent's house that night. I read the letter and I still have it today. I remember every word in it" I tell him
"What did it say?" he asks
"Here I will read it to you" I say as I go into my draw and pull out the faded letter. Then I begin to read it
"Dear our little girl Audrey, We know that the past couple of days have been very hard for you. We know how upset you are about mommy and daddy but you should know that we both do love you very much and nothing can ever change that. You are probably wondering what will happen when you are married or when you are grown up and have a boyfriend. All we want for you is to be happy Audrey. We were happy together at one point in our lives, but things changed. We want you to be happy your whole life with that one special person. Audrey, we hope someday somebody wants to hold you for 20 minutes straight and that's all they do. They don't pull away. They don't look at your face. They don't try to kiss you. All they do is wrap you up in their arms and hold on tight, without an ounce of selfishness in it. We love you so much Audrey. We always will no matter where life takes us. Love always, Mommy and Daddy" I say as I end the letter and feel a little teary eyed
Gennarro smiles at me and I see that his eyes are a little watery. He hugs me again...this time for twenty minutes and he does just what the letter said...just holds me in his arms.
"I missed you" he says to me
"I missed you so much. And thank you G for being the first one to do what this letter says before I even read it to you" I say and he laughs
"I guess it we were meant to be" he says and I kiss him
