Attention Deficit Disorder in Children - Child Support Guidelines
Children affected by Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD should be handled with care. Here are few child support guidelines for you…
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a common disorder that affects many children under the age of seventeen. The disorder is related to the nervous system of children. This disorder results in a condition when the affected child is unable to pay attention or interest to the tasks in front of him/her. This disorder can also continue until the adulthood of the affected child. There is no proper medical cure for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder though proper parenting and childcare.
Guidelines for Child Support
Child Support can be a very good solution for the cure of ADHD children and preventing the disorder from growing into their adulthood. This needs good parenting and a small variation in the way of living at home. Some of the changes to be made for the child support are as follows,
Teach confidence and positive approaches
Whenever it is possible, teach the child to stay positive in whatever action he or she does. Invoke confidence in him for all his deeds. Teach him what should be done rather than what he should not. Praise him for every little good thing he does. Overall, inject positive instincts in him.
Schedule the activities at home
Schedule and impose certain rules for the activities at home like setting up the timings for all the work at home for the child. Maintain the schedule for all the household work like waking up in the morning, performing the morning jobs, having food, doing the academic works, playing etc. Direct the child to live according to the rules. Make it sure that the child maintains the schedule everyday and makes it a daily habit.
Be calm and serene to direct him
Whenever you teach or guide the child, look at him in a calm way and speak with him in a gentle manner. Harsh behavior towards the child could further suppress the child. When assigning him a work, be sure that you split the job into small sub-divisions and direct him to do it one by one. This tends to reduce the pressure off the child.
Help the child in his academics
Always assist and be with the child in all his activities related to the school. Be with him or her while doing the homework and assignments. Assist him to your possible extent. This can give him a positive mindset and self-confidence. Some children tend to develop hatred towards going to school because of the extra-pressure on them. In such cases, be with them and teach positive things about going to school. Assist them in getting ready for school and dropping them at school. Directing the teachers to pay special attention to the child will also do.
Help him in extra-curricular activities too
Being with the child in his academics alone will do no good. He must develop communication with the other children of his age. This needs a better understanding of the child’s interests. Certain children will have an interest towards playing some games but do not have the necessary courage to go forward to do so. Supporting such children by encouraging them according to their needs will give them the required courage. Some other children do not show their interests in playing. Rather they stay alone and involve themselves in activities like drawing, painting or making handicrafts. Such children should be supported and encouraged in their interested fields.
Acknowledge their work
Praise and acknowledge the child’s work, may it be big or small. Look only at their efforts and not at the outcomes. Praising their hard-work certainly gives them a lot of confidence and can push them further to do more.
These are few of the child support guideline for ADHD affected children.
