At night IT comes

It will always stay with you...
I stood in the corner shaking, my back flat against the cold wooden panels that lined the walls of the bedroom. IT was here again, looking for me. I waited silently, staring into the black, all the while hoping that the darkness would cover my presence from ITs hateful gaze. The familiar mixture of stale smoke and liquor filled the air as IT lumbered around the room, bumping into the scattered furniture that lay in the nothingness. I could hear ITs breathing getting heavier, the low groaning of ITs anger becoming louder as ITs frustration grew, IT was coming closer and I knew it was only a matter of time. I had to GET OUT!

Through the pitch I could just make out the door to the hallway, its brass handle gleamed as the small streams of moonlight that broke through the blinds covering the window reflected off its polished surface. Around its edge, the faint, warm light of the table lamp outside could be seen. It seemed to brighten and fade as I watched it, as if tempting me to make my move toward its protective glow. I was pulled back into reality by something slamming hard into my side. I quickly gasped for air, ready to let out the painful screams that I knew would follow, and then… nothing. I held my breath and slowly reached out my hand to feel my aggressor, lightly brushing its cold surface with my fingertips. IT had stumbled into my desk and knocked over the chair, its metallic frame now lay on its side next to me. A grunt of rage rose up from the black below as IT fought to pick itself up. Now was my chance! I looked at the door and then back down into the darkness…I could make it.
