In use since ancient times, astrological compatibility charts have gained immense popularity in recent times - and this is evident by the fact that people resort to these charts for some of the most important decisions of their life.
Synastry, popularly referred to as astrological compatibility, is the concept of studying relationships and behavior between two people based on their birth horoscopes. In western astrology, the zodiac date ranges determine the zodiac sign of a particular person, based on the position of the Sun at the time of their birth. In Chinese astrology, each year is considered to be the year of a particular animal, and the person born in that year is considered to be born under the animal sign of the said year. Astrological compatibility helps the person in making choices and decisions with immense ease. For instance a Sagittarius is more compatible with a Leo, than he is with a Scorpion. Similarly, a person born under Rat sign is much more comfortable with a person born under the Dragon sign, than he is with a person born under Snake sign.

Western Astrology
The twelve zodiac signs are divided into four groups each representing an element: fire, water, earth and air. Each of these groups comprise three signs each. Sagittarius, Aries and Leo are fire signs, Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius are air signs, Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn are earth signs, while Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces are water signs. As fire and water don't get along together, people born under these signs don't get along well.

Chinese Astrology
Like western astrology, even the 12 zodiac animals of the Chinese zodiac signs are divided into 4 groups - the first groups consists of Mouse, Dragon, and Monkey, the second group of Buffalo, Snake, and Cock, the third of Tiger, Horse, and Dog, while the fourth consists of Cat, Goat, and Pig. Signs belonging to a particular group are highly compatible with each other, but with other signs they either need to work to keep it going well or they are not at all compatible.
