Assad’s Call for Referendum Seen as a Joke at White House

The White House sees the Syrian president’s call for a referendum as a bad joke, but fails to acknowledge the bad joke that is American economic policy – the result will probably be war that will serve as a distraction from how bad things are here at home.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has recently called for a constitutional referendum in late February, a move that is being seen as something of a joke by the White House. Notes Jay Carney, White House press secretary, "It’s actually quite laughable. It makes a mockery of the Syrian revolution." Indeed, it probably does, though there appears to be some evidence that the latest opinion offered by the White House is merely another building block in the move toward a war with Syria and Iran. Hey, when the economy simply won’t respond to irresponsible "stimulus" spending, why not start a war, right?

Added Carney, whose job it is to sugar-coat executive policy and make the moves by the current administration actually seem feasible, rather than criminal, "Promises of reforms have usually been followed by an increase in brutality and have never been delivered upon by this regime since the beginning of the peaceful demonstrations in Syria. The fact of the matter is the Assad regime's days are numbered."

Hmmm…that does seem like a desire for war. One must wonder, in the wake of Carney’s comments, when reform will occur in America. No time soon, presumably, since it appears that two status-quo candidates – President Obama and Mitt Romney – will square off in the 2012 presidential election. In the meantime, Obama will play some sleight-of-hand games and try to take the nation’s attention from the brutal economic conditions, the continuous bank bailouts (both on the record and behind the scenes), the free government handouts that are increasing daily and all sorts of other strife by manufacturing a good old-fashioned war.
