Ashton Kutcher to Go Head to Head Against CNN for Twitter Users
Twitter addict Ashton Kutcher has challenged CNN and Ted Turner to a Twitter duel, with the first to 1 million followers to be declared the winner.
The challenge has been made, the gauntlet thrown, the stakes set. Ashton Kutcher is facing one tough competitor in trying to be the first to recruit 1 million followers on Twitter – namely, massive broadcast company CNN. With the numbers growing in leaps and bounds for both Kutcher, a Twitter, micro-blogging maniac, and CNN, the massive news outlet, the challenge seems only natural – by today’s pop-culture and sound-byte obsessed culture anyway.
At present, CNN has 937,000 followers, while Britney Spears has 903,000 followers and Kutcher comes in at third with 888,000 followers. It was Kutcher who first challenged CNN and the company’s founder, Ted Turner. In true Kutcher style, the 31-year-old actor noted (on Twitter, naturally), that he would ding-dong-ditch Turner’s house if he reached 1 million followers before CNN did. Said Kutcher, "I find it astonishing that one person can actually have as big a voice online as what an entire media company can on Twitter. I just thought that was kind of an amazing comment on the state of our media."
Kutcher originally promised a "Guitar Hero" video game to the 1 millionth Twitter follower on his account before quickly realizing that it would be nearly impossible to determine exactly WHO the one millionth user was. Larry King, who has a popular show on CNN had something to say about the challenge, noting, "Are you kidding" Do you think you can take on an entire network? Do you know how big we are? Do you know what CNN is? Kutcher, you’re playing out of your field. You’re in another time zone. This ain’t gonna work. CNN will bury you!"
