Simpson, 23, and Wentz, 28, announced the news on his website friendsorenemies.com on Wednesday. The couple wrote on the site, "While many have speculated about this, we wanted to wait until after the first trimester to officially confirm that we are expecting our first child. This is truly the most joyous time in our lives and we are excited to share the happy news and start our family." The couple was married on May 17 at her parent’s home in Encino, California. Her father, Joe Simpson, performed the ceremony and sister, Jessica, was the maid of honor. The couple enjoyed a honeymoon in Turks and Caicos. Simpson legally changed her name to Ashlee Wentz, but will reportedly be known professionally as Ashlee Simpson-Wentz.
Simpson and Wentz, the bassist for Fall Out Boy, announced their engagement in April and shortly after that it was rumored that the couple was expecting their first child. Wentz immediately went on the defensive and denied the rumors. Simpson just avoided the question and said it was an "inappropriate."
The couple was reportedly friends before they began dating in the fall of 2006. Both Simpson and Wentz are celebrating the release of their newest albums. Simpson’s album Bittersweet World, which features the song "Little Miss Obsessive," and Fall Out Boy’s album, Live in Phoenix, was released in late April. Their own little collaboration is reportedly due in the fall. Simpson told People.com, "I would love to have a big family one day." Wentz reportedly added, "A big soccer team or a band!"
