Armpit Rash: Causes and Treatment
Allergic reaction is one of the most common causes of an itching armpit rash. This might be an allergic reaction to something that you've used on your underarm skin, like a deodorant, soap, powder or perfume. Some fabrics or even the detergents used to wash your clothing can be the cause of armpit rash. For treatment, you must observe which products are causing underarm skin irritation and accordingly stop using these products on your skin.
Another possible cause of armpit rash is folliculitis. It is infection of hair follicles, which can occur in your armpits and lead to a rash. Daily friction in your underarms, due to tight clothing or shaving can damage the underarm hair follicles and make them susceptible to infection. An armpit rash that looks like pimples is probably due to folliculitis. This rash is bumpy, red and painful. Armpit rash treatment in this case includes avoiding any type of hair removal method until the rash is cleared up. Also, if you realize that your regular hair removal method is causing the rash, you can opt for another hair removal method and observe the effects. You must wear loose clothes to avoid friction and hence, to control and cure the rash.
Fungal infection is another cause of armpit rash. The armpit area has ideal conditions for a fungal infection, just like your feet and groin area. This area is often moist and has very less exposure to light, which can allow yeast and other fungi to overproduce. Armpit rash caused due to fungal infection is patchy, flaky, red and itchy. Its treatment depends on the kind of fungus that is causing the rash. Your doctor can help determine it and then prescribe an appropriate antifungal medication to treat it. You must keep the underarm skin cool and dry to prevent fungal skin infection. Also, proper and regular cleansing of this area is very important to stay away from this rash.
Excessive heat is a very common cause of armpit rash, as this area experiences a lot of heat build-up. Keeping the underarm area cool by applying ice cubes is the best heat rash treatment for better looking armpits. Moreover, you must wear loose-fitting clothes, preferably made of cotton fabric to prevent armpit rash.
Other Remedies for Armpit Rash
Using vitamin-e oil will help heal the rash and keep your skin healthy. Keep your armpits clean and dry by cleansing them at least twice a day. Apply aloe vera gel over the rash for healthy skin regeneration. This also helps reduce armpit discoloration. Add more Vitamin C in your diet, as it is an essential nutrient when it comes to skin health. Make sure that your clothing is not too tight around the underarms. Restrict use of deodorants and perfumes. Avoid prolonged exposure to heat or intense activities, as these lead to excessive armpit sweating which further aggravates a pre-existing rash or may lead to a rash. Remember, don't exclude your armpits from daily skin care routine. So do cleanse them and apply a light moisturizer before going to bed.
If the above treatments don't reduce the rash or if the skin bleeds, you must consult a dermatologist to know the exact cause and get the best treatment. Remember that clean and dry underarms are sure to stay problem-free!
