Final Chapters Of Story
CHAPTER 7
It's Friday night and I am in my room getting ready for dinner. My mom, dad, Kyle, me, Derek, Kristen, and their parents are going. We are going to a really nice restaurant. I am wearing a cocktail dress.
RING! RING! RING!
"Hello" I say as I answer the phone
"Hey pooh bear"
"Oh my goodness, hey Reese" I say and laugh
"What are you doing?" Derek asks
"Getting ready"
"Me too" he says
"So is Kristen excited" I say
"Oh yeah she is so excited" he says
"Good. Doesn't it seem surreal though?" I ask
"Totally, like I feel like it is a big dream" he says
"I know"
Within the next few hours we leave for dinner. We arrive at the restaurant. It has a little outside area too.
"Joey, do you want to go outside?" asks Derek
I nod and Derek takes my hand and we go outside on the terrace
"So it is pretty cool that my brother is going to marry your sister" I say
"Yeah" he says
We are sitting on a bench and facing a beautiful fountain. Derek is still holding my hand.
"It is so weird though" I say
"For us it is" he says
"Yeah it is...it is crazy. But they love each other so..." I say
"They are only twenty" he says
"You can't put an age on love" I say
It is true though. It is a little weird for me and Derek because of the chemistry between the two of us.
"Why is your hand shaking?" he says and smiles
"It is shaking?" I ask
"Yeah...don't tell me you are nervous around me" he says
"Around you? No. I am nervous about tomorrow" I say
"Don't be, you are going to do awesome" he says and holds my hand even tighter to stop the shaking but it didn't work
"Stop!" he says and laughs
"I am sorry. I am not doing it on purpose. I can't help it" I say and laugh
He kisses me on the head.
"You're so cute" he says
"No, I think you are" I say
"But you are my pooh bear" he says and smiles
I smile back at him
"So, someone's birthday is in two weeks" I say
"I know. The big seventeen" he says
"I am older than you"
"By what? A month?" he asks
"Um, yeah!" I say and laugh
"It's ok though because I am taller and nobody has to know" he says
I lay my head on his shoulder
"Mm. You smell really good" I say
"Thanks, it is Armani cologne" he says
We laugh
"Can I kiss you?" he asks me
"As long as it is a real kiss and not some peck on the lips" I say and smile
"I promise it will be good" he says
We kiss and this time it was so romantic and passionate.
After dinner it was time to go home
"Bye Derek" I say and hug him
"Bye, I'll see you tomorrow ok" he says and we go home
CHAPTER 8
I could not sleep last night. I was so nervous. I was texting Derek all night. I told him about my dad having to deploy and he asked his dad if it was true and it isn't. I am so relieved. Well today is the big day. I hope I do well.
At the barbecue right before I have to make the speech I see my friends Alyssa, Mark, and Derek. They all wish me good luck. It is now time for the opening ceremony. That would be my lovely speech.
"Good morning and welcome to the 15th annual remembrance barbecue. My name is Kelly-Jo Bassollo. I am the daughter of Colonial Bassollo and I am seventeen years old. (Pause) We all come together on this gorgeous day today not only as an army base community, but as a family, to celebrate and remember our brave soldiers both past and present for their continuous efforts and heroic work they do every day to protect us and our country. This is a happy day, full of joy and pride, bands and dancing, family and friends. (Pause) When I first moved here I was seven years old and I had no idea what I was doing, where I was, or what was happening. I don't remember because I was too young. But this is why I am standing in front of you all today, to learn and experience what it is like to be an army kid. It's not only about friends, fun, and games all the time. It is about sticking together, pulling through tough times, and helping each other out. All of us kids are a family of our own and we are all in this together. We are and we always will be army kids. (Pause) I have been through many hard times. This year, for example, we lost one of our community soldiers. He was a father, a husband, a friend, and an uncle to the Willows family. Lieutenant Willows has risked his life fighting and it is a misfortune to have lost him. Everyone misses him very much. (Pause) On a good note, just last night, my brother Kyle came home from training and proposed to his girlfriend, Kristen Willows. So I would like to congratulate the two of them and wish them good luck in the future. (Pause) All of us are special in our own ways and even though we live inside this army bubble we are all still one family and that will never change. A friend once told me that everything happens for a reason or else the world wouldn't exist. That is so true. I believe our soldiers, each and every one of them, fight not only for their country but for us, their families, we back them up and support them in all they do. This all happens for one reason because without our support and without their fighting, who knows what the world would be like today. (Pause) So on this day, a day of remembrance, I would like to bless each and every one of you and thank all of our soldiers, wives, friends, and army kids for doing what they do best everyday. Keeping us a family because that is what this day is all about. Thank you and God Bless!" I say and finish my speech
CHAPTER 9
As I finish my speech everyone gives me a big round of applause and a standing ovation.
"You did so great, baby" Derek says as he gives me a hug and a kiss on the lips
"Thank you, thanks. But I couldn't have done it without you. You were such a big help thank you so much. I love you." I say as I am hugging him
"You're welcome, I love you too" he says
I start to cry for some reason
"Come here, stop, what's the matter, why are you crying?" he says as he wipes my tears away
"I don't know. I just have so many emotions running through my body right now" I say and giggle.
"Why? What kind of emotions?" he says and laughs
"I don't know...everything. Joy, sadness, anxiety, excitement, love...it's just like a big rush going through my body" I say
Derek hugs me tight and holds me
"Is this helping" he says
"Yes, a little bit. I just need to calm down" I say
"Yeah just try to relax" he says
I finally calm down and Derek goes to get me a drink
"Hey, you did awesome up there Kel" says Kristen. She is pretty much the only one who calls me Kel
"Oh thank you so much. But what about you, are you so excited you are getting married?" I ask
"Yes Kel you have no idea" she says
I smile
"But what was that, you and my brother?" she says
"Oh yeah, well you know, we are seventeen Kris" I say
"That is so true" she says and laughs
Derek comes back with my drink
"So are you all calmed down now from your attack of emotions" he says
"Oh yes. It was so weird" I say
"Did you say you felt love too?" he asks me
"Yes I did" I say and laugh
He kisses me again and smiles
"I love you" he says
"I love you too" I say
So this is how my life is as an army kid. You know how some things always change; well these times will always remain the same. I will always be an army kid and I am proud of it =)
