Armand Nicolet MO2 Big Date Chronograph - A Review
The Armand Nicolet MO2 Big Date Chronograph is a watch of outstanding construction and intelligent design. Crafted from stainless steel and featuring a silver guilloche dial the model is sporty yet refined. The brand is famous for creating intricate watches with innovative mechanical movements and this piece is a fine example of the meticulous attention to detail of this Swiss manufacture.
Founded in 1902 the Armand Nicolet luxury watch brand are creators of fine Swiss mechanical timepieces. The philosophy of the original founder is still true today, to craft beautiful, often intricate watches with meticulous attention to detail powered by innovative mechanical movements featuring astonishing complications.
The focus of these impressive movements was crucial to the success of the Armand Nicolet brand during the downturn caused by the arrival of quartz watches in the late 1970’s as they were able to produce mechanics and complications for other brands within the industry, and thus survive through that difficult time. The Armand Nicolet company came under the ownership of Rolanda Braga, himself a veteran of watch design, in 1990 and continues to thrive under his direction. The brand continues to develop and release a portfolio of watches that fulfil almost every demand, including classical and sporty timepieces, limited edition models and a fine collection of ladies watches.
One series in the collection is the MO2 Big Date Chronograph model. This sporty yet refined timepiece is suitable for casual daily wear or the more formal occasion. The 43mm watch case of this piece is crafted from stainless steel, with a fluted crown and contains the Calibre AN 4500-2892 TND/TNK automatic self-winding movement, visible through an exhibition caseback. The silver dial features the distinctive guilloche engraving synonymous with the brand, applied indices and blue steel luminous hands. There are 3 subdials at the 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions for the small seconds, 12-hour and 30-minutes chrono counter with the big date window at the 12 o’clock position, each featuring the perfectly contrasting blue hands. The watch is water resistant to 100m, has a leather strap with stylish stitching detail and the chronograph ensures it is highly functional, perfect for accurate sports timing.
The Armand Nicolet MO2 Big Date Chronograph is a watch of outstanding construction and intelligent design. The overall impression is one of enduring refinement and sporting chic. As the awareness of fine mechanical timepieces continues to increase, the meticulous craftsmanship that is at the core of the Armand Nicolet brand make this the perfect watch for the individual who requires quality and style.
