Are You Prepared for 2007 USA Hurricane Season?
As an emergency preparedness consultant on both natural and man-made disasters, I truly believe that this USA hurricane season could be bigger than the one that brought us Katrina and Rita.
Yes, as we enter the second month of the hurricane season we have definitely dodged the bullets so far. However I'm very concerned that this could be the lull before the storm.
And I'm not the only one concerned. The former USA hurricane expert, Max Mayfield, tried to warn Congress last year that we were not taking the proper precautions and making the necessary preparations for what he called the next 10-20 years of Category 3-5 hurricanes.
He told the subcommittee that in his opinion we needed to prepare for what he called the Perfect Storm that could lead to the deaths of over 15,000 people! Yes, you read that correctly: 15,000! Well as usual our really alert Congress people politely thanked him for his concern and did NOTHING about it! Here is one of the foremost authorities on the subject of hurricanes in the world and Congress ignores him? Does not surprise me. Well Max "resigned" at the beginning of 2007 and decided to take the message to the people and to emergency consultants like me and my partners.
So what should be doing?
First, don't listen to the idiots at the American Red Cross that say that you only need at the most a week's worth of food and water! How absurd! How long did it take FEMA to find some of the victims of Hurricane Katrina? MORE than a week!
Also are you aware that just the other night Judy Woodruth was interviewing a reporter from the Washington Post, my former employer, about the story he had written that said that Homeland Security was short over 30% of top management people and that FEMA had the worst situation in the organization.
That means that even with the bumbling, fumbling morons at FEMA already screwing things up when they had more personnel, can you imagine what it will be like now? TOTAL chaos! As I have told my thousands of subscribers, NEVER rely on the government to get you out of a jam like a hurricane, tornado, earthquake, etc. And for sure that doubly applies to NOW!
So you should have at least 2-4 weeks of food and water on hand for emergencies. If you want further info then you can download my NO cost ebook on Emergency Preparedness.
