Are There More Than One Killer Rabbit?
Killer rabbits have existed in the movies since Monty Python and the Holy Grail. But there is no stranger killer rabbit than President Carter's.
The original 'Killer Rabbit' of Caerbannog was first introduced as a fictional beast in the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail. King Arthur of the round table, ordered Bors, one of his manly knights, to chop the White Rabbit's head off. Drawing his sword, Bors boldly drew near the harmless looking Guardian Beast, called the White Rabbit, only to have his own head chopped off, to the sound of a tin opener at work. When the knights made a full assault on the Cave of Caerbannog, they were driven off by the Guardian Beast.
The next appearance of the Killer Rabbit was in a musical, Spamalot, inspired by the Monty Python movie, which in turn was inspired by Shakespear's Hamelot.
Only four years after the release of the Holy Grail movie, the Killer Rabbit made the headlines once more. President Jimmy Carter, while trying to take a break from the pressures of office, was fishing in a pond in a canoe in Georgia. All of a sudden he was faced with a desperate looking rabbit, swimming directly towards his boat. "Its teeth flashing, hissing menacingly, and nostrils flared, it frantically tried to find a safe haven". The President’s Secret Service men were caught flatfooted.
Holding no weapon, the President was forced to use the oar against the monster rabbit, in order to protect himself. Fortunately for (we don't know who), the rabbit changed its mind and turned and swam off towards the shore line. A photo taken of the incident, by a White House photographer, suffered the fate of all 'Killer Rabbit' photos and was thought to have been flushed down the Presidential toilet, never to be seen again. Since then numerous 'Killer Rabbits' have surfaced.
The novelist Iain Banks had a killer rabbit in his first novel. Many computer-games feature killer rabbits. These include such titles as: Eternal Lands, Asheron's Call, Arcanum, Guild Wars and many more. Then came a killer rabbit card game, as well as a series of interactive fiction books, entitled Grailquest. Dungeon and Dragons featured a monster rabbit in 1980. Television was not going to be left out, so along came Xena, the Warrior Princess fighting for her life against a fierce, fanged rabbit.
Cyber Space presented us with a psychopathic rabbit, in the comic Sluggy Freelance. We have had killer rabbit dolls, killer rabbit t-shirts and killer rabbit slippers.
Finally we had Dean Hunt's killer rabbit video, when it ran riot on the social network, striking the front page of DIGG.
Now rumour has it that Dean's Killer Rabbit has a mate, who has immigrated to Vanuatu, a tiny tropical island nation, the home of travel adventure destination of the South Pacific. It has been thought that Dean's Killer Rabbit may be going to a secret rendezvous with MKRVu (Ms Killer Rabbit, Vanuatu) later this year. Stay tuned as we bring you more in the 'Killer Rabbit' series.
