The Many Applications of DNA Testing

This article explains different types of DNA testing such as using a paternity test, DNA profiling, and how they have been used in different fields of science today.
The study of genetics has come along way in the past couple decades, and more and more we are seeing new developments in this exciting field of science. We have seen DNA testing being used in the news as it has become one of the most reliable ways to prove someone guilty of crimes such as murder or rape. We have seen it being used as well in many popular television shows with the deciding factor for the crime always being the result of the DNA test. This has become perhaps the most convincing evidence for crime scene investigation.

In today’s world, advancements in DNA testing have been useful in all aspects of life. Even in the family, science has been used to bring out the truth in many cases of infidelity and therefore bringing justice where it needs to be. By using irrefutable DNA evidence through science one can know exactly what has happened in the past and although the results may be painful to learn, sooner or later the truth must always come out. DNA genetics has only sped up the process, and caused hidden secrets and lies to be made known. Perhaps in today’s world there are many who are digging dip into their pockets to keep up on child support payments, when in reality they may doubt that the payments being made are even for their own children. Advancements in DNA profiling have allowed a simple and inexpensive way to be 100% sure that you aren’t paying child support in vain. In fact, one simple paternity test is probably less expensive than a single child support payment! Therefore, using a paternity test and finding out that that you aren’t the father would eliminate the hassle of those child care services.

With DNA testing being a relatively recent development in science, one must wonder how many people convicted of crimes they did not commit would have been let free quickly by using DNA identification. With that also, one must wonder how many guilty suspects were let off the hook? In many courts of law, cases that date back many years have been overturned by using DNA testing and the innocent have been let free after many years in prison. The most recent case being a fifty-seven year old man who being sentenced to fifty years in prison after being convicted of aggravated rape was let free after the DNA evidence did not match that at the crime scene. He had fulfilled half the sentence already which would therefore be twenty five years in prison. Astonishingly, in Dallas County, Texas, he was the fifth man in ten years to be let free by using DNA evidence.
