Symptoms of Appendicitis

Appendicitis -- being a severely painful condition -- has many symptoms associated with it. This article highlights the minutiae of the condition in question.
Appendicitis has various symptoms which help in the identification of the disease. This medical condition is nothing but the swelling and infection of the appendix. It is difficult to detect the symptoms of appendicitis in children as they find it difficult to express what is actually happening to them. Appendix is mainly characterized by abdominal pain. Other abdominal problems like kidney stones also show the same characteristics like that of appendix, which also poses difficulty in detecting appendix symptoms in kids. Doing different tests like blood test, will help in knowing the exact reason. Blood test will determine the white cell count which will thus help in knowing more about the problem. CT scan can also be done to know what is the exact problem.

Indicants of Appendicitis
During the initial stages, pain near the navel will be experienced. Later, this pain will gradually move downwards towards the lower right abdomen. Also, after a few days, the pain tends to become intense and sharp. This pain settles at the lower part of the abdomen near to that of the appendix. Now, this area pains only if you are suffering from appendix. This lower portion is mainly between the belly button and the right hip bone. The pain might become severe during nights while sleeping. It will also increase while walking, running or doing any physical work. Adults do more manual work and hence, this appendix symptom, observed in adults, often goes unnoticed in children.

While coughing, sneezing and while taking a deep breath, the pain will tend to become intense. At times, appendix may cause obstruction in the intestine. This obstruction may thus lead to vomiting and diarrhea. It may also lead to nausea. Some people might also suffer from fever due to appendix. A few of them will also experience difficulty in passing stools. Another common appendix pain symptom is a suggestive feeling, that passing stools will make you feel comfortable.

Causatives of Appendicitis
Though, most of the time, the exact cause of appendix is unknown, the causes given below are few commonly observed ones. The clogging of parasites and feces in the appendix is one of the reason for appendicitis. Another cause is infection in the gastrointestinal tract. Infections in the other parts of the body are also responsible for this medical condition. Any kind of damage to the abdomen is also one of the reasons for the same. The enlargement of the tissue present in the wall of the appendix can also cause this problem. Inflammatory bowel disease, ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease are also a few reasons for it. People aged between 10 to 30 years are more prone to appendix.

Symptomatic Treatment for Appendicitis
I guess by now you know clearly about appendix symptoms and causes. This is a severe medical condition and hence, appropriate treatment should be taken. The early you opt for treatment for appendix, the more are the chances of early recovery. Visit a doctor immediately after you observe the appendix symptoms. If the appendix is in a severe stage, the doctors will suggest an appendicitis surgery. Else, it can be treated with medication too.

If not treated, there are chances that the appendix will burst. The bursting of the appendix will cause the poison present in it to spread in the whole body. This will create a severe medical condition named as peritonitis. To avoid all this, opt for medical treatment as soon as you notice appendix symptoms. Stay happy, stay healthy!
