Apartment Security Today
outlines different types of apartment security today. There are many types of security from security guards to gate codes.
Apartment communities have different types of security and deterrents to keep crime low. Depending on which city you live in and in what areas you are interested in, apartment security can vary greatly. Cities with low population rates typically have lower crime rates. And cities with large populations like Houston, Tx can have higher crime rates. Newer apartment homes have really increased their security levels over the years. We will cover several different security features outlined below.
Key Fob
The key fob is really a new security device that makes it very difficult for non-residents to access the apartment community. Of course during business hours anyone can walk into the main entrance and meet with a leasing agent or the property manager. Vendors and other personnel who need to enter the property must be able to do so to conduct business accordingly.
The resident will receive this key and it will allow them to access the parking garage or the pool area, common areas, and more. This device is placed on or near doorways and automatically unlocks the doors. If you don’t have a key fob you cannot gain access to the property unless you are with a current resident. The most up to date properties have a key fob.
Gate Codes
Properties that do not have a key fob will usually have gate codes or access panels to enter the property. Any non-resident will not be able to access the property without the code. The only real issue with these codes are that they are seldom changed and many residents offer the codes to their friends.
This can allow non-residents to access the property at will. Gate codes are better though than no gates at all.
Security Guards
Many of the more upscale communities will have security guards posted in the parking garage areas. They will patrol the area to prevent car break-ins and theft from motor vehicles. In high rise facilities, there usually is an attendant on the main floor.
Many apartment communities now have officers who live on-site and at a discounted rate.
Privacy Fence
The lowest form of security is the privacy fence. This is simply a fence that encloses the entire property. But anyone can come in and leave accordingly without any hassle. Apartment communities like these may be perfect for some cities. However, for larger cities with more crime these types of communities might not be a wise choice.
