Anything You Want

Of course Jimmy. Anything you like.
"Where am I?" The question formed quickly and was answered by a voice hidden by the shadows.
"You are anywhere you want to be."
"I do not want to be in the dark." The little boys trembling voice whispered.
"So be it."
The room was suddenly illuminated but it was empty aside from the bed the boy lay on and a couple of toys in the corner.
"I'm afraid." The little boy gathered the blankets around him as if they could protect him. "Where are you? Why can I hear you but not see you?"
"Do not fear me. I am a friend. I am here to give you anything you want. Isn't that what you always wanted Jimmy?"

Jimmy looked around the room. "Are those my toys?"
"Yes." The voice replied.
"Can I play with them?"
"You can do whatever you want Jimmy."
He threw the blankets aside and went over to the corner with the toys. He picked up the electronically controlled car and turned it on. He set it down and picked up the steering controller. After ten minutes of watching it go across the room he set it down and looked for another toy.
"These other toys look boring. Can I have more?"
"You can have whatever you Jimmy. Remember?"

Jimmy smiled happy that he could have anything he wanted. "I'm kind of hungry. Can I have a burger and fries?"
"Of course Jimmy." Suddenly a door opened up and a burger and fries were sitting on a slate.
"Wow. That looks really good." Jimmy walked over to the burger and fries and picked up the tray. When he finished with the burger and fries he noticed his throat felt dry. "I'm thirsty. Can I have something to drink?"
"What would you like to drink Jimmy?"
"Can I have a glass of cold water?"

The door opened once again but this time a glass of water lay on the slate.
"Jimmy, can you be so kind as to put the dirty tray back on the slate?"
Jimmy bent down and picked up the dirty tray replacing it with the cup of water.
"You are a good friend. What is your name?" Jimmy looked around the room again and decided he felt tired so he made his way back over to the bed and got under the buzz light-year blankets.
"What would you like my name to be?"
"That's a silly question. Everyone has a name. That's what my mom and dad said."
Jimmy suddenly thought of something he should've thought of before. "Where are my parents at?"

It took a moment before the voice replied. "I do not understand the question. You are tired. Good night."
The lights turned off and the room was sent into darkness. Jimmy sighed. I just asked a simple question... Why didn't he answer me? With that last thought he drifted off to sleep.
"Good morning Jimmy." The lights turned on and Jimmy groaned and put the blankets over his head.
"What time is it...?"
"Whatever time you want to be."
That response annoyed Jimmy. "What time is it?"
"Whatever time you want it to be."
"I want to know the time."

"I'll be right back Jimmy. Go ahead and play with your toys."
Jimmy crossed his arms over his chest and sat on his bed refusing to play with the toys. He sat and sat and sat some more until he finally got tired and lay in bed again. The lights turned off and Jimmy sat up.
"Are you back?"
"Lay down again Jimmy. It's late and you should sleep."
"I'm hungry... Can I have food?"
"Not today. Good night."

Days passed into weeks and Jimmy was growing more and more aware that he couldn't get out of the room and every time he spoke of the outside the voice became more distant.
One day Jimmy had enough and asked to go home. That earned him 2 days without food and water. His toys were his only company and he soon grew tired of them.
"Let me out. I want my mommy..."
"You can't leave. You're mine Jimmy. Forever."
"What do you mean forever? I want to go home. I don't want to be here anymore. I'm scared."

The voice chuckled. "You should be."
Then everything went dark. Jimmy ran in the direction of the bed and threw the covers over his head.
"I want to go home... I want to go home..."
Four more days passed before the voice came back.
"How are you doing Jimmy?"
"I want to go home."
"That's not possible."

"Why can't I go home? My parents miss me. I know they do."
"This is your home now Jimmy. You're never going to leave this room"
Suddenly the room was filled with static and Jimmy covered his ears.
Voices could be heard in the background. "Get down now! Hands above your head. Above your head sir!"
Jimmy shot out of the bed. "Hello! Can anyone hear me?! It's Jimmy!"
"Sir, do you hear something? I think it's coming from there."
Jimmy banged on the walls and yelled louder. "Please get me out of here!"
"Um hello? Is anyone there?"

"Yes! Please get me out of here!"
"Okay. Calm down. Where are you?"
Jimmy looked around. "I don't know... I'm in a room."
"He doesn't know where he is. You'll never find him."
Jimmy flinched at the anger in the man's voice. "Maybe if you send me food I could climb onto the slate."
"I'm sorry son. Explain a little more."
"The voice sends me food through a panel in the wall. I'm tiny enough to squeeze through it."
"Great! Hold on son."

Jimmy began to pace back and forth waiting for the nice man to come back and talk to him. Suddenly the door opened and Jimmy ran and slid himself onto the slate. He tugged his arms and legs in close to himself and scrunched into the tiniest ball he could manage.
"I'm in!"
"Good. Now hold on someone will be there to catch you."
Jimmy closed his eyes and when he started to fall he fell straight into the arms of the nice man.

"What's your name son?"
"My names Jimmy. Can I please go home now?"
The nice man laughed and put him on his feet. "As soon as we ask you a few questions and find out who your parents are, of course."
Jimmy jumped up and down in joy. "Oh thank you so much! That other man wouldn't let me do anything!"
The man's face suddenly grew serious. "Yes. He was a very bad man Jimmy. Did he ever touch you?"
"No. I never saw him ever. Only heard his voice."
"Good. Now, let's get you home."
