It can result in infections like vaginal yeast infections, oral thrush and skin infections. Candida albicans are the most common type of Candida infection.
The Anti Candida Diet
The concept of this diet is very simple. Foods that help the yeast proliferate in the body must be gradually reduced and then completely eliminated.
Foods to Eliminate: The following list will help to arrest the overgrowth on Candida.
- Sugar: Carbohydrates promote the levels of glucose (sugar) in the blood, aid in the growth of yeast. But not all carbohydrate intake causes harm, only the simple ones like in processed grains and food. High starch foods like corn, potato and other root vegetable, etc should also be avoided, as they too increase the sugar level.
- Yeast Products: All food products that are fermented use yeast. Foods like cheese, bread and fermented products like preserved and pickled food, soy sauce, vinegar and alcohol like beer should be avoided. Some fungi like any kind of mushroom is also known to aggravate the condition.
- Other Food: Grains like wheat, barely and rye that contain gluten, wheat products like bread and pasta, dairy products like yogurt, cottage and cream cheese. Selected fruits and fruit juices, as they are naturally high on sugar. Any hidden form of sugar like lactose, fructose, maltose, glycogen, sucrose and glucose should also be avoided. Also, margarine and hydrogenated oil are high on starch.
- Water: Always drink clean filtered water, tap water should be avoided as the channel of its flow may be infected with parasites.
- Vegetable: Fresh vegetables that contain very little or no starch at all. Garlic and onions are known to be beneficial
- Fruits: Since it would be difficult to avoid fruit intake, the quantity should be limited.
- Fat and Cooking Oil: Regular butter and vegetable cooking oil should be used as they are low on starch and cholesterol.
- Meat and Poultry:All fresh meat and poultry products are high on protein as well as are completely devoid of sugar and mold.
- Live Yogurt: Live yogurt cultures or probiotics help the gut to repopulate itself with good bacteria.
- Green Algae: Spirulina and Chlorella algae help restore balance to the gut and boost the immune system.
