Anne Hathaway’s Ex May See Less Jail Time
Raffaello Follieri, of Anne Hathaway boyfriend fame and now a convict, is pushing to get out of jail early, according to his attorney.
It’s old news that Anne Hathaway’s ex-boyfriend, Italian "businessman" Raffaello Follieri pleaded guilty last month to masterminding a scheme to defraud would-be investors of their money. Follieri did so by leading those investors to believe that he had Vatican ties and could therefore purchase Vatican-owned U.S. real estate that the Catholic Church wished to dispose of via private sales. Apparently, a tuxedo, an Italian accent and a bit of nerve is all it takes to convince folks of legitimacy these days (in related news, thousands of Brooklyn, NY natives are brushing up on their real estate pitch to sell their city’s eponymous bridge to the same group of investors).
In the latest twist in Anne’s ex-beau’s case, however, Follieri’s attorney is trying to speed up the process of deportation and is, with no small amount of moxie, recommending that the con-man’s sentence of five years and three months be shortened to three years. Hathaway, for her part, seems to be dealing well with the breakup – she dumped him almost immediately after his arrest – though she was living temporarily with her parents. In response to the horrendous events that unfolded, Hathaway noted that she felt "like a rug was pulled out from under me."
Despite the bad news for Follieri, one must admit that at least he made the good times worth it while they lasted, taking the money from his various "ventures" to fund a $37,000 per month Manhattan apartment, expensive clothes and private jets for his girlfriend. Not that Anne’s not worth it, mind you, but we would have preferred a more honest approach to the whole courtship.
