Daniel Smith, 20, suddenly passed away on September 10 and it was reported that Anna Nicole had famed pathologist Cyril Wecht flown to the Bahamas from the United States to perform the autopsy. Wecht, 75, has previously consulted in the investigations of the deaths of Elvis Presley and JonBenet Ramsey. He performed the examination on Sunday and reportedly found no sign of heart disease, stroke, cancer, systemic infection, pulmonary embolism or "congenital anomaly." Wecht said, "I find nothing to suggest to me any kind of foul play. I think that we have a tragic death of a young man and ultimately the cause I going to be determined."

Wecht did reveal that Daniel Smith had been taking antidepressants, but did not know which medication he had been taking or why. Wecht said, "About four to six weeks before he died, Daniel had been prescribed a small dosage of one of the milder antidepressants." He went on to say, "Everything was well under control. There is nothing to suggest this was a suicide. The answer will reside with the toxicology tests." The toxicology results will reportedly not be in for two weeks at the least.

Daniel Smith reportedly flew into the Bahamas on September 9 to visit his mother who had just given birth two-days prior to his little sister. Sunday morning Anna Nicole and her friend and lawyer, Howard K. Stern, reportedly found Daniel "slumped in a chair" in her hospital room. Hospital staff tried unsuccessfully to revive the boy for 20 minutes before pronouncing him dead. It was just reported that Stern has hired his own attorney to represent him, but there has been no indication as to why he felt the need for legal representation.
