Anita
PLZZZ comment!
The rabbit’s cheeks bulged on either side of its face as it chewed its delicious purple flower, one of her favorite foods. Her small, black, beady eyes looked calm and worry free, without a care in the world. However her body was full of instinct and stood ridged, her muscles were ready to burst with speed as soon as she heard a twigs warning snap. Her ears were straight above her head listening attentively. Then she heard it, the sharp snap of a twig on the forest floor, that was her warning and she took off without looking back. If she had looked back she would have seen the most extraordinary animal anyone has ever seen. Most would consider it a wolf, however when they see two black bird-like wings reached out on either side of its body their eyes widen and they would shrink at the sight. She was feared.
--
Anita watched hungrily as the rabbit leapt into the undergrowth and out of sight. Her wings were folded against her pure white matted fur; it was so caked with grime and dirt that she looked the color of beige. She decided to clean up in the stream. Trotting forward she lapped at the water in the stream before submerging her body into it. She licked herself continuously until the brown mud washed away in the stream and away from her fur. When she stepped out of the stream the sunlight hit her fur like a beam and sparkled around her. Her white fur made her look magnificent and stunning under the sun or moon, not one strand of her fur was grey, black, or brown. The only exception was her black feathered wings. She had to be the most beautiful wolf in the forest, probably the most beautiful creature in the forest. However no one would mate with her due to her huge wings and while ever wolf’s eyes were yellow hers were an ocean blue that made you feel like you were off the ground and flying, her fur felt like you were wrapped up in an angel’s wing.
"Anita!"
Anita growled in disgust, her fat master was calling for her to come home.
Back when she was just six months old the man had hunted her parents down and killed them, when he found they had a cub he brought her home and decided to keep her. He had attempted to tame her and to an extent he did except for her strong attitude that drove him angry when she either ignored him or turned her back to him in the middle of an argument to say shut up. Little did he know that she would grow up the way she did with the wide spread of feathers and the ability to fly She had also learned to understand a human’s language and speak it. Not only that but she was able to learn any animals speech within a year of her captive life. However, there was something else, something unearthly about her nature. She had a power beyond most. She didn’t quite know what it was or how to use it but she could feel its danger coursing through her.
Long ago when she had first starting hunting (around nineteen months old due to the drawback of not having a mother to teach her) she started small, a rabbit. She chased down the high spirited rabbit that was young and barley ran out of energy with each passing minute, unlike the small Anita. Soon she was very bored of the chase but still her tummy rumbled to indicate she was hungry. She thought the dog food she was given sickening. A moment later a word seemed to creep across her mind as if she was reading it, she began to sound it out and accidently said it out loud. "Matanza." It was only whispered but it worked, the rabbit came to a halt in its tracks and for a few seconds teetered there before falling to its side. That was a meal she never ate.
Although he was her master, he gave her a shelter and tried to feed her good food, she still hated him. She remembered the day her parents died and she wanted nothing more to be free in the forest and roam where she please like she did now only with out a home to come to. That’s why, like today, she frequently wandered away.
"Anita!"
With a sigh she wandered back into the trees towards the house. Picture a house in the middle of a forest; you see a rundown shack right? This was far from it! Although she hated her master, he was quite a rich scientist, she was the only wolf with her own room, and of course she would rather a den. He had once tried to test her when she had first grown wings and she had given him a painful swipe with her powerful paw. The house was huge, three stories not including the basement or attic (the attic was her room). A glass porch wound its way around the entire third story, its silver railing always looked hot in the sun as it gleamed. There were probably more windows then there were walls, most of the walls were just glass, what needed privacy in the middle of a forest?
Anita scratched at the grey door and it opened wide, her master stood on the other side.
"Happy you came home. I was afraid you had gotten killed. Perhaps you were just ignoring me?" He said with a sneer. He was her master but he wasn’t friendly.
"I decided to humour you and come back until I decide when to leave. And yes I did try to ignore you but your voice is so ear bending I couldn’t help it." She was smug but then again she always was. She had no respect for him.
Her master’s name was Dr. Cline. He was fat yet a very tall man which made him all the more peculiar, no offence to short or skinny people. He probably weighed close to three hundred pounds, not to mention he always thought it was appealing to walk around without a shirt on. It made Anita want to thrown up and make him clean it up. He had a mop of brown hair and plain brown eyes. He wore his line of suits which made Anita laugh when he stepped into the forest; he looked like an alien on our planet. All in all he was the ugliest guy you could ever see.
"You’ll never be able to leave here," he threatened.
"Just try to stop me," she took the challenge with a growl.
She trotted into his room and stopped short. There bunched in a pile was the blue eyed blond she had seen before she left. Her eyes stared blankly at the ceiling and looked as if a spider was coming down to get her the size of a cat. Blood stained the carpet beneath her from a knife in her side that seemed to tear down her entire stomach from underarm to hip. Clearly he didn’t get what he bargained for.
She turned to leave to find him standing in the doorway keeping her from leaving.
"What are you going to do? Leave?" He asked with a smirk.
"Well if you think I’m going to live in this nut shell then you’re more nuttier then I thought. You killed her!" She cried.
"Yes I did."
"Why?"
"You know."
"You’re disgusting, now I’m really out of her!" She tried to get past.
Anita’s ocean blue eyes flamed up with so much danger that you could actually feel the heat when you looked into them. He hesitated for a moment then smiled wickedly. That’s when she saw the silver blade slip from his pocket. She began to shake as he smiled at her then pounced, the knife held out towards her.
She quickly sidestepped and he fell to the floor. She bolted to the door to only find it locked. She turned back to him with her back against the door, he had already gotten to his feet and was advancing; she only had one way out. She remembered the day with the rabbit and closed her eyes lightly to whisper softly;
"Matanza."
He stopped and stared wide eyed at her, her power had immediately taken effect. The knife clanged again the marble floor as it fell. His mouth froze into a scream that would never surface. Then came the loud thud that shook the house, with his weight he must have shaken the world. It was over, he was dead.
She stood frozen to the floor as she stared down at his body, people would be here in the morning and find him on the floor. They would turn to Anita and demand answers then they’d see the blue eyed blond. She’d be put on display at a museum when everyone saw her (only few had) and poked at and tested, or even worse they would kill her for further testing. She had to get out. So she slipped out the door stepping on as little ground as she could; only walking on the down on the ground when her wings tired. She wasn’t a very good flyer; in fact she was terribly clumsy at it. After about a good mile she decided to walk on firm ground, now she was free.
Anita travelled for many suns; every pack she came across chased her away. Now she could feel excitement and restlessness of the mating season but of course, once again she wouldn’t mate. Her eerie presence stopped any potential mate to go near her during the mating season. Judging by the two mating seasons she had been gone two years since she left her master dead. She had felt utterly alone.
As she walk the trees began to thin, she thought nothing of it until she heard a roar beyond them, then another. Her ears perked forward, she hadn’t heard that sound since she was a young pup when her master lifted her into a small shinny house onto a long seat of leather. The house was tiny and smelled funny but when her master got into the house on the chair in front of her it began to move down a stretch of black. She had only been in it once when they had went to a lady that poked at her body. Master had called her a vet.
This was the same sound that tiny house had made. Anita growled and flattened her ears as she crept forward. She came to a long stretch of black and across that was more forest. She began to walk across.
As she neared the other side the front of one of the houses came at her, a loud beeping sound echoed her ears that made her stand stock still. There was a squeal of tires then she was thrown sideways and pain rattled her whole body, within seconds her whole world went black.
--
Vultures perched on the tree branches near the road; some were brave enough to land on the ground. They didn’t know what to make of this creature, its body was badly banged up, and its white fur was stained scarlet. It looked much like a wolf but the vultures were put off by the large black bird-like wings.
One vulture on the ground dared go closer, his body hopping up and down as he moved along the ground and his wings were in a ready position to take flight if he needed to. He came inches from the body where his black feathered body and featherless head stretched until he pecked the creature’s body. Not one of the others vultures dared to blink or even breathe. The vulture hopped on top of the creature and gave a loud caw.
The vultures flapped down as one and landed around the body. When they drew close the creature shook, not one bird noticed. They pecked madly at the body fighting over their pieces. The creature awoke. With a low growl the creature snapped at the birds and leapt to her feet. The birds bolted back into the trees running into one another and cawing wildly, all but one.
--
Anita growled pleasantly as the vulture hung from her jaws. It was the vulture that had been brave enough to peck at her snout, the one that had first drawn close. Her body shook with excitement- she lived! However, the pain still seemed to rattle through out her body from the impact of the moving house, her back leg was broken. The vultures watched in utter amazement from the trees as she limped back into the trees, her prize dangling from her mouth.
