Angels - Part Eight
And the story grows some more...! The next chapter is worth the wait, believe me!
When we had left the hospital it was about midday, meaning we couldn't get in a full day of walking, which was fine with me, my legs were killing me after not being used for a few days.
"Stop." Zane ordered.
I looked around wildly trying to see why he had ordered us to a halt, but I couldn't see any reason why.
He walked over to Amber and I and pulled a key out from his pocket.
"Wait, you had the key the whole time?" I asked him. Not matter how much I pleaded neither of them would give me the key, and it kind of hurt knowing that he had the key and wouldn't unlock us.
But apparently he had a change of heart. He unlocked the handcuffs that were tying me to Amber and threw them into a bush.
"We won't be needing them anymore." He replied as he continued on walking.
I was tempted to run, but my wrist was sore and blistered, and I didn't have a first aid kit, Amber had it in her bag, and I figured that it would get infected without treatment, so for now I will stick around.
But no promises that I will stay with them forever.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We hadn't stopped for a rest since Zane had taken our handcuffs off and I was dying of thirst.
"I could really use some -"
"Shh! Did you hear that?" Zane asked, interrupting me.
He stopped and spun around so he was shielding my body with his, and Amber, not wanting to be left out and look like a coward, did the same.
"Don't worry guys, it's just me." A girl replied laughing as she stepped out of the bushes.
It took me a minute to recognize who it was.
"Hey Noel." I tried to step away from Zane's protective stance in front of me, but he wouldn't let me move.
"Who are you? What do you want?" Amber replied, trying to put as much macho into her words.
"Wow, take it easy. We haven't come to hurt you. We're friends of Ash. Right Ash?" Noel replied.
"Yeah." I said, nodding at them.
I was kind of hoping that Zane would realize that these were the people I was talking to at the hospital, but no. Before he could get anything out Amber drew her gun and pointed it at Noel.
"Holy shit! What the hell are you doing?! They're my friends!" I shouted at her.
Solomon darted in front of Noel and shoved her behind him, jumping into the same defensive stance that Zane was in.
Oh shit. If things weren't bad before, they definitely were now.
"Amber! Put the god damn gun down! They're my friends!" I screamed at her, not taking my eyes off Noel. She looked scared, really scared.
Amber hissed in reply and took one step towards them. It was like she was trying to scare them as much as she could before she shot them.
"You take one more step towards any of us, and we will kill you." Mutatta said. He spoke with a strange accent, Egyptian. But regardless of the accent, he meant what he said. But Amber obviously didn't believe them, because she took another step, trying to see how much she could push them.
And if she didn't believe that he meant what he said before, I think right now, she did. Mutatta raised his left hand towards her a little and rolled his eyes into the back of his head.
"Mutatta! NO!" Noel screamed at him, but it was too late. The sky went black and the wind suddenly picked up all around us, blowing Mutatta's coat all around him. And then it started to rain everywhere and Mutatta started to glow a little, not very strong, but still visible. The glow surrounding Mutatta started to stretch towards Amber and then she dropped down on the floor, screaming in agony and having a fit on the floor. It looked like she was dying, like a fish out of water.
"Amber!" Zane yelled as he ran over to her.
"Don't. The moment you touch her you will be in just as much pain as her. I advise you not to." Solomon said. It kind of sounded like he was trying to help him. Or at least stop him from being hurt like Amber was.
"Stop, please! Mutatta, please don't! It's hurting her!" I screamed at him. He turned his head towards me, but I wasn't sure if he could actually see me, because his eyes were still rolled into the back of his head. All I could see was the whites of his eyes.
"Stop." Noel said to Mutatta, putting as much force into the words as she could. I could see a tear form in her eye, but she wiped it away before anyone else could see it. She obviously didn't want any of this to happen. Not even to Amber.
Man, she was nice.
And then the rain started to ease, until it had completely gone, and the weather was back to normal. But Amber was still screaming. She had stopped withering, but she was obviously still in pain.
Zane dropped to the ground beside her and wiped the water off her face.
"Why is she still screaming?" Zane asked Mutatta. His voice had turned icy, and it was obvious that he didn't like Mutatta.
"She will stop as soon as she starts to dry. I would get her clothes off and wrap her in a blanket." Mutatta replied, turning away and walking back to Noel. Solomon dropped his defensive stance and turned towards Noel.
"We should leave. We shouldn't stay with them. It's not safe." Solomon said, and before Noel replied he walked off towards the bushes.
"Wait." Noel replied, and Solomon stopped right where he was. "Don't you think we should hang around and make sure that she is okay, and to be honest, I think that they could use a bit of help."
Noel walked towards the backpacks that Amber and Zane had thrown at the beginning of the fight and started to rummage through one of them.
"Want some help?" I asked her as I walked over to her. I picked up the other bag and started to go through it, looking for a blanket for Amber.
"Um, no." I didn't feel very comfortable sitting next to her anymore, not after what she let Mutatta do that to Amber. Even she didn't deserve something like that.
"What did he do to her?" I asked Noel.
She looked over to Mutatta and Solomon, who were standing near the bushes, arms crossed, glaring at Zane trying to push the water off from Amber's face.
Noel looked back at me and hesitated before continuing.
"Mutatta is special. He is an angel, well, kind of. He can control the weather, I guess, to some extent. He used to have wings, and then there was an accident and they were ripped off him, before then he used to be an air angel. Ever since he has had some weird gift. It's like he is part of the sky." Noel replied.
It was like the old legends.
Their used to be legends that Angels and Saviors believed in. Legends with warriors who could control certain things. There was sky warriors, earth warriors, mutation warriors and all kinds of other ones. They used to keep peace, until one day a war broke. Everything that us Angels lived by was forgotten. Everyone was fighting for themselves, trying to stay alive as long as they could, hopefully see the war through and grow old, telling the tale to their grandchildren.
The warriors fought for control, killing demons left right and center, but they were no match. They were all killed, except for one. One Angel, one who could control all the elements. He finished the war, killing almost every demon on earth.
He settled down eventually and had kids, but without the need to use every element, they were forgotten. The only ones that were remembered all down the generations was fire, earth, water, air, light and darkness. And with his offspring, he only passed these on. Of course with the exception of one of his Sons that could control them all, that was all us Angels could do.
But there was certain Angels and Saviors that believed that some of us knew some of the ancient elements, but not all of us believed them. Most of us thought it was a hoax or that they were just nuts. But Mutatta knew one of the elements. Maybe that meant that they were true?
"He sort of had this power before though, before he lost his wings. To some extent anyway. Well, that's what he said." Noel explained, interrupting my thought.
Maybe this meant that I could get my powers back, and maybe they would be even more powerful than before.
"Hey Noel, maybe he could help me get mine. You think he would help me?" I asked her eagerly.
Maybe I could still be an Angel, just not have my wings.
"I don't know. He doesn't talk to people he doesn't know much. And he prefers to stay by himself." Noel replied. It was like she didn't want to help me.
"Please, I don't know what I would do without my element power. I should be the most powerful Angel! I was! And now I am nothing but a human! And then I find out that there is a possibility that I can get my power back, and you won't even help me!" I screamed at her. She should be helping me, she owes me. She owes us, especially Amber. They all did.
"Okay. Just breathe. I will talk to him, but I can't promise much. Like I said, Solomon and Mutatta like to stick to themselves a lot." Noel replied, walking off toward the bushes where Solomon and Mutatta were standing, still glaring at Zane and Amber.
"Stop." Zane ordered.
I looked around wildly trying to see why he had ordered us to a halt, but I couldn't see any reason why.
