Anesthesia Side Effects

There are two types of anesthesia - general and local. In general anesthesia, a patient is devoid of any sensation throughout the body. This is mainly opted during major surgeries. While in local anesthesia, only the part which has to be operated upon is benumbed while, the sensations of the remaining body are unblocked i.e., they are conscious.
Most of the methods do not have any side effects. But, a few might cause a problem in weak people. Mostly, children and elderly people are prone to side effects.
People might suffer from nightmare the night which follows immediately after taking the anesthesia. Some people might also suffer from chills and cold. A few of them experience shivering. This side effect is mostly observed in children. This effect is difficult to be controlled. To reduce the shivering, wrap blanket around the patients body. After administering anesthesia, some people might vomit. Presence of blood in the stool and urine is also a possible side effect. Some people might lose weight fast without any known cause. The symptoms of jaundice start developing in some people after a few days of surgery.
Some people also experience body ache and might feel weak. A few hours after being subjected to anesthesia, some people experience strep and dry throat. This is mainly because of the usage of tube which is used for helping the patients to breathe. A feeling of nausea is also a common effect. Headache, pain in the muscles and joints is also experienced by some people. Low blood pressure is also observed in a few, and some people also feel dizzy after the surgery. Some people appear to be confused, rather disillusioned after being administered with anesthesia. This is mainly observed in elderly. An itching sensation will be experienced all over the body by the patient. Some of them might also suffer from backache.
The anesthesiologist takes care that the patient does not suffer from any kind of side effects. For this, they study the medical history of the patient and try to know if the patient has suffered from any kind of disease in the past. This helps them in giving the patient the appropriate drug.
The aforementioned pointers were a few possible dangers. People who suffer from different allergies are also prone to its side effects. All those who are allergic to a certain thing or are suffering from any allergy or disorder should let the doctor know about the same in advance.
