An Agonizing Question

"We came into this world and we don't know who decided so. We will be taken out of this world one day and we don't know when. But we can never escape the question: What is going to be after the end of our earthly life? Of course, we can say that nothing and nobody is waiting for us after, and so deceive ourselves very easily. But, did we solve anything? No, there is nothing solved, we can't release ourselves from that hard and agonizing question: What if there is something after this life?" O. Loy

This question is always avoided… I wonder why? Maybe because we all have fears concerning our end, that all our relationships with this earth will be broken. On the other hand, maybe we are afraid that on that particular day we will not have anybody to be there with us. We are afraid that we will be alone, and that the darkness will surround us, without any possibilities to turn back?

Then, where can we look for a sense in this life? Where can we find caress for the time when death will come? Life cannot have any sense if it ends only with death. The caress cannot be found unless we find a viable answer to the supreme question of our existence!

"We cannot escape that question" the O. Loy, from above, said. That is exactly why people come up with so many speculations and wrong beliefs concerning death and eternity. The theme of death is avoided, passed by, minimized and even idolized. Eternity is related with earth only, or, even worse, denied. At the end, though, we are found face to face with the same bitter uncertainty, and here nothing can help you; not even the results of the so called "studies of the clinical death", because the experiences that happen at the time of death, actually happen in this world. Nobody really came back from death.

So, there is no chance you can have peace about this question. Then, it might help if you know whom to address it to and where to you wait for an answer from? We need a valuable answer, an answer we as people cannot come up with. Death cannot answer, because it is voiceless, and it puts us to silence. The only trustworthy answer needs to come from beyond there, from eternity, from the very source of life, from Lord of life and of the dead.

To believe in God means to accept the answer to the final question from His Word. But, this Word is included in the incarnation, crucifixion and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the only One that came to us from eternity. Only through Him have we found the truth about heaven and earth, God and man, life and death. More than that: He lived and suffered for our life on this planet of death, and in the same conditions as us. Our guilt before God was carried by the Son of God on the cross, and it was cleaned by His Holy blood.

But this is not all. God wrenched Him out of the Kingdom of death and made Him victorious over it. He doesn't just have death behind Him, but He is also above it. From now on, all those who die in Him, are no longer prisoners of death, but they belong to the Lord of life. Our future in eternity depends only on Jesus Christ and of course on us if we choose to accept the "ticket to life" which is His precious sacrifice for us.

With this answer, I can live in this world of death, even if I had the worst disease. I can live extracting my power from future eternity, starting from a target and looking straight to that target. Christians are life lovers; they even love this earthly life, because they already know the eternal one, hidden in the resurrected Christ. This fact really enriches and decorates our existence.

With this answer, I have no fears when I go through tribulations, or even through death. Jesus is here; He is besides me. The one who died for me comes with me through death, and He doesn't forsake me in the valley of the shadow of death. Yes, my days are counted, but my time - even more, my eternity, is in His hands.
