An Advice for Revolutionary Sidamas

In two earlier articles under the title ´An Advice for Revolutionary Oromos´ (http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/49843) and ´An Advice for Revolutionary Ogadenis´ (http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/49963), I underscored the great importance of the interconnection of the Oromo Liberation movements, parties, organizations, and associations with the liberation movements of other oppressed nations in Abyssinia, Sudan, Algeria and other parts of the world (from Scotland, Catalonia, and the Bask land to the Aramaeans, the Baluchis and the Tibetans). This interconnection should happen at the level of information, knowledge, contact, experience exchange, and international coordination of the struggle for independence. I also suggested the Oromo sponsorship of the other, smaller tyrannized nations of Abyssinia.

Furthermore, I expressed the idea that the deprived - of food, water, infrastructure, freedom, and normal conditions of daily life – Ogadenis should sensitivize decision makers among the Western elites of material affluence and spiritual ignorance, taking the Ogaden Drama to soirees de gala, and high society restaurants, to the upper middle class venues, the operas, the art galleries, the theaters, and to the most prestigious races in the racecourses. The great socio-economic chasm that separates our world’s materialistic elites and the global periphery of dramas, oppression, poverty, and starvation demands a bold reaction .

I will terminate my approach with this article, which focuses primarily on the Sidamas, but also on all the other, smaller, tyrannized nations of the African Hell, fake ‘Ethiopia’. Today’s Sidamas, Afars, Anuak, Agaws, Shekachos, Kaffas, Kambatas, Wolayitas are not of lesser importance, if compared with the Oromos and the Ogadenis. Their cultures, religions, languages do not reflect any sort of inferiority. Their past has nothing to envy from the past of other Kushitic Africans or any other nation in the world. Only their population is smaller; but this is not – and must not be taken as – a problem! Small is beautiful!

A Small Nation is Ideal for 2008!

The oppressed Sidamas, the massacred Anuak, the tyrannized Agaws, and all the other dehumanized nations of the Abyssinian Hell must not feel weak or abandoned, as our world is full of small – free and prosperous – nations. Some of the smallest nations of our world lead vast countries in terms of research, productivity, social organization, and prosperity. Tiny Norway finds nothing to envy from England, and Austria has no reason to covet France in anything; a small and young, independent nation, Slovenia ensures the EU presidency for the first six months of 2008! Just 1.5 million people, the Slovenes formed an administrative elite able to offer world-class representation to a nation much smaller than the Afars or the Sidamas! Estonia, with similarly small population, is poised to become Europe’s primary IT hub over the few next years.

Other exemplary nations total less than one million citizens; Malta, Cyprus, Luxembourg, and more recently Montenegro. Exploiting their own natural resources, bringing development and technological advance to them, and cultivating their own national identity, history, culture, and language, small nations are best suited for just, impartial, balanced, rational, and sustainable development.

Small and Independent: Prerequisite of Success and Development

This should be the first answer to give to heinous voices for large states that – with the disreputable, infamous and barbaric state of Abyssinia at their top – proved to be failures. Africa offers similar examples: Tunisia is better off than Egypt, Cap Verde is more advanced than Congo, Namibia is well ahead of Sudan, and Senegal leads the infamous wreckage "Ethiopia".

There in no doubt that if the Sidamas, the Afars, the Anuak, the Agaws, the Shekachos, the Kaffas, the Kambatas, and the Wolayitas were small independent nations tomorrow, then socio-economic development, technological advance, education, science, tourism, transportation, everything would be blossoming.

This would occur in great contrast with what happens today, when the criminal and inhuman Neo - Nazi Amhara and Tigray rulers view the subjugated lands of all these – greatly different – nations as exploitable resources, and their populations as expendable stuff.

Sidama Collaborators to Re-examine their Attitude towards Amharas, Tigrays

Appointed by the Amhara and Tigray dictators as local masters, the various indigenous collaborators must truly re-examine their acts and preferences; in a moment of ‘realistic’ consideration in the past, the material survival led them to choices that are morally, politically and nationally unacceptable.

They decided to collaborate with the Amhara and Tigray rulers because this was the easiest and the shortest way for their (and their family’s) survival. They got something instead; a slightly better life than their subjugated compatriots whom they were asked to betray and did betray for some time. All this is understandable up to a certain point.

Now, it is the time for a re-appraisal; Abyssinia, fallaciously re-baptized ‘Ethiopia’, did not progress. In fact, the shameful relic Abyssinia lost pace to other African and Third World countries like Iran, Egypt, Algeria, and Sudan.

Although they betrayed their nation, they did not get something substantial instead, except the disdain of their compatriots, the brave and heroic Sidamas, Afars, Anuak, Agaws, Shekachos, Kaffas, Kambatas, Wolayitas, who deep in their soul were never subjugated to the barbaric and uncivilized Abyssinian intruder and invader.

Now, it is the time to join forces with their nations. Expressing the interests of their own nation, instead of bowing to the barbaric and alien Amharas, they traitors of yesterday must become national heroes of tomorrow, and lead the struggle of the tyrannized Sidamas, Afars, Anuak, Agaws, Shekachos, Kaffas, Kambatas, and Wolayitas.

Then, they will have to interconnect, coordinate with the other tyrannized nations who struggle for National Dignity, Freedom, Independence and Democracy.

In any case, no one can save the wreckage ‘Ethiopia’.

The colonial, medieval carcass of state is not viable; it would be foolish to imagine that the ephemeral American help, a paranoid and crypto-Nazi State Department Assistant Secretary, and a lobby - paid with money stolen from the Sidamas, the Afars, the Anuak, the Agaws, the Shekachos, the Kaffas, the Kambatas, and the Wolayitas - can possibly keep in life the already dead corpse of fake "Ethiopia".

To save their lives, and those of their relatives and children, the various local ‘elites’, who collaborated with the Neo-Nazi Amhara and Tigray authorities, must now join forces with the various liberation fronts, movements, and associations of the other oppressed nations.

Thus, they must set up their own liberation front, and contribute to the final demolition of the unsustainable tyrannical state of Abyssinia.

Primary Task: Identity, Culture and Language Preservation

For all small nations, the basics of survival evolve around the preservation of their own particularities, identity, culture, and language. Support can be offered by various institutes and NGOs allover the world, by several universities and research centers, and by the natural allies of the smaller nations, the Oromos and the Ogadenis.

Much is to be written, published, posted in the web, diffused as information, and studied analytically; an essay about the History of the Kaffas as orally narrated from generation to generation, a treatise about the social behavioral system of the Shekachos, an analysis of the faith and beliefs of the Anuak, a dissertation about the Sidama Astronomy, an article about Agaw poetry, a composition about the feasts of the Kambatas, a feature about how the Afars practice Islam, and a Wolayita – English / English –Wolayita dictionary are key to success, survival, and independence.

All these cultures must soon be effectively systematized as academic disciplines and all the local leaders must incite universities and research centers allover the world to fund related programs.

Then, local youth will study abroad, local intellectuals will come forth, will teach their illiterate – because of the Abyssinian tyranny – compatriots, and they will form the socio-economic elites who will become the backbone of the successful independent administrations.

In fact, for every oppressed nation, it must be the same; nothing is more valuable for the Sidamas than the Sidama History, the Sidama Past, the Sidama Identity, the Sidama Religion, the Sidama Language, and the Sidama Culture.

And there is nothing more valuable for anyone in the world than Authenticity; only the authentic survives.
