Amy Winehouse Toxicology Report Indicates Singer Highly Intoxicated at Time of Death
The coroner's report on the death of Amy Winehouse revealed that the singer's blood alcohol content was 4.5 times the legal limit when she died, although no evidence of other drugs was discovered.
The most recent - and presumably final - coroner's report on the death of Amy Winehouse revealed that the singer had ingested large amounts of alcohol prior to her death. Winehouse's personal physician confirmed that the singer had been abstaining from alcohol for some time, but had relapsed in the days just preceding her untimely death. The report suggests that Winehouse's blood alcohol content was 4.5 times higher than the legal limit at the time of her death.
Even for someone in perfect health - and without the scars of years of drug and alcohol abuse - that level of alcohol consumption is always potentially fatal. The frightening thing about the tragedy is that Winehouse had probably had at least that much to drink at numerous times in her life prior to the episode that killed her. Ironically, it was likely the brief period of alcohol abstinence just prior to her final binge that made her body more susceptible to alcohol poisoning and sudden death.
Winehouse was a mercurial talent who captivated the music world with her soulful, edgy songs and throw-back voice talents. She was never able to come to grips with her success or her celebrity, and she fought addiction demons for years prior to her death. And although she suffered well-documented meltdowns during major performances, her final weeks were spent living quietly in a normal neighborhood, trying as best as she could to overcome her illness. Unfortunately for Amy Winehouse, her family and her fans, she simply was not able to do so.
