Amy Winehouse Drops Appeal of Norway Drug Case

Amy Winehouse dropped her appeal of drug charges that she had previously consented to in Norway and the case has now been closed.
The original charges stem from a 2007 incident in which Amy Winehouse and her husband Blake Fielder-Civil - and her hairdresser, were arrested in a Bergen hotel for possession of seven grams of marijuana. Considering some of the other problems that Winehouse has faced - and is still facing - that charge seems almost laughable.

At the time, Winehouse paid a fine of roughly 300 euro, then later decided that she wished to contest the charges. In order to pursue her appeal, Winehouse would have been required to appear in a Norwegian court next week. That obligation certainly must have been called into question when the best possible outcome of the trip - 300 euro - would not have covered the cost of actually getting there and back.

Someone in the Winehouse camp must have done the math and realized that the troubled singer should be spending her time and her euro a little more productively. Now that her appeal has been dropped, the case is officially closed in the Norwegian courts. Amy Winehouse is now free to pursue future criminal pursuits in countries around the world.

The 25-year-old Londoner first cracked the charts with her debut album, Frank, in 2003. Her follow-up album, Back to Black, exploded in 2006, taking home numerous awards and leading to her global fame.
