American Idol Sends Two Contestants Home
In this season's newest twist, America and the Idol judges conspired to send two American Idol finalists home in one night.
The unlucky contestants last night turned out to be two of the nicer performers in the competition - Jorge Nunez and Jasmine Murray. After tallying America's votes, both Nunez and Murray finished in the bottom two slots. In the past, that would have meant that only one of them would be going home. But things have changed a bit this year and two contestants were sent packing in the same episode.
The judges reserve the right this year to overturn one of America's vote-off selections if they believe that the person has a legitimate shot of bouncing back to win the show. But the judges didn't use their veto power for either of these contestants and now they are gone.
There are now only 11 finalists remaining in the competition and everything will be heating up for the stretch run. With the new judges' veto power looming until the final 5 contestants are in place, this season is sure to take the drama to a new level. And fortunately for all of us listening at home, we've moved past the Michael Jackson song week, with hopefully better days ahead.
As the competition heats up, American Idol is likely to start grabbing more and more of the media's attention and the new "second chance" option is going to get people talking.
