See what happens when Kiya and Cranky apple finish the game.
Cranky jump down and handed me the letter. I took it with sigh and open it with a little of impatience. I unfolded the letter and read out loud. Abby and Yuke stood behind me as I read.
"You're almost done now, all you have to do is find these things..." I look in the envelope and found another sheet. "You must find a: a plant with edible berries, a Pill bug, a pair of glasses, a necklace, and lip-gloss." I ran out of breathe, I didn't stop to breathe.
"There's also a container by the tree we could use for the berries and the Pill bug." Yuke said.
"Get it and lets hunt. Yuke and Abby go look for the Pill bug, Monkey here," Cranky apple pointed at me. "Doesn't like bugs. So we'll get the berries and meet back here."
Yuke nod with not one rejection and left without a word. Cranky apple pull me to follow him. We walk backwards towards the main building. Why was he leading us back here? Cranky apple bent down and spoke very low making sure I didn't hear what he said.
"Here, I thought I saw some berries here." He pluck some, and handed it to me.
Yuke and Abby took the container that I had to put the berries onto my shirt. My shirt was going to be stained with the berries juice oozing out. Cranky apple tan skinny looked good with the sun shining down at him. His short curly brown hair flow with the wind whenever it pass by. I never notice how muscular he was and how he could balance on his toes when he reach further in for more berries.
I bent down to watch what he was doing. He had stop handing them to me now and was doing something else. When he was done he stood up and look down at me. I follow him when he stood up and his brown eyes were still looking down at me. I never notice how tall he was compared to me that I had to look up at him if I wanted to stare in his eyes.
"What?" I said in a calm voice. "Do I have something on my face that you're looking at me like you are going to kill me?"
He extended his hand out, "Here, I bet your hungry." He open his hand and there were berries in his hands. "Have some." I squinted my eyes as if there was a trick to his politeness.
"Why are you being so nice to me all of a sudden?" I said still looking at him with concern eyes.
"I'm trying to be nice for once and you think I have a dirty trick up my sleeves." He still had his hand out towards me. "Just eat some. Your stomach was growling the whole time."
I took some out of his hand and the berries. I never like eating berries in my whole life, but it was true I was hungry and anything I eat now would've been good. Cranky apple bent down and pick more berries and handed them to me. My hand and my shirt now had a red, purplish stain now. I try wiping my hand on my pants but the stain on my hand wouldn't come off.
"Come on, Yuke and Abby are back." I turn around and sure enough, they were right behind us.
"Look Kiya we caught a lot of Pill bugs!" Abby had her color back now.
"'Oh, that's great." The Pill bug brought back memories of how me and my brothers would lift huge rocks and catch as many Pill bug as we could. But we would eventually put them back when we were done with them.
"Ok, what else do we need?" Ask Yuke.
"We need a pair of glasses, a necklace, and lip-gloss." Cranky apple said.
"I have a necklace," I pull out my necklace from under my shirt and Cranky apple sweater.
"I have glasses but there in my purse back at the fire ground." Abby said.
"Ok, run and go get that. How about lip-gloss do you guys by "chance" have lip-gloss." Cranky apple said.
"No," I said with a disappointment. All because of me we weren't going to win.
"I don't either." Abby said. "I don't like lip-gloss."
"Hurry! We're going to win! We just need berries!" I turn around towards the screaming and yelling. There was another group running they were almost done. Once Abby heard them yelling she ran as fast as she can to get her glasses. We ran after her too, Cranky apple was holding the container so I threw the berries in the container, I took off my necklace and gave it to Cranky apple. When I was done I started running. We were almost there when Abby came running towards us now.
"Here are the glasses just be careful with them." Abby was out of breath.
"What about the lip-gloss?" Yuke said when he caught up after Cranky apple and I arrive.
"Cranky apple you can run faster than me right?" He nod at me. "Then this will do." I turn and kiss his cheek. I had forgotten I had lip-gloss on my lips. I ask Jolene for lip-gloss earlier.
"This will do!" Cranky apple yelled and ran towards the finishing line.
As he was running Abby, Yuke, and I notice another guy running after Cranky apple. We started running trying to warn Cranky when we notice Cranky ran through the finishing line.
"Yes!" We all jump up and down.
"We won!" Yuke and Abby were jumping together now. I stop jumping and ran towards the finish line, as much as I dislike Cranky. I didn't think he should be alone when we were over here cheering.
Abby pull Yuke by the arm and they came running too. When I reach the finish line Mrs. Steward lifted Cranky hand to announce the winner. Without noticing I ran straight to Cranky and jump at him, he caught me and swing me. He put me down and hug me, I push him off because it felt awkward.
"We won!" I yelled
