Amanda Bynes is a popular American actress and used to host the Nickelodeon show. Born on the 3rd of April, 1986, in Thousand Oaks, California, she is the youngest amongst three children, and it was at the early age of three that she displayed an interest in acting and performing, saying her older sister's lines along with her when she acted in plays. It was right then that her parents knew that they had a star in their daughter.

Amanda Bynes' Career

She got her training as an actress from Richard Prior and Arsenio Hall at a comedy camp she had attended. And true to that promise she displayed so early in her life, her professional acting career began when she was just seven years of age, when she appeared in a TV ad for Buncha Crunch candies. She also acted in stage versions of 'The Secret Garden', 'Annie', 'The Sound of Music', and 'The Music Man'. Later, in 1996, after she finished with her acting classes, she became a regular member of the cast of Nickelodeon's sketch-comedy series 'All That'. She became an immediate hit, with people enjoying her performance in the skits, particularly in 'Ask Ashley', playing a little girl who runs an advice column.

Amanda Bynes was only 13 years old, when in 1999 she bagged her own variety show, known as 'The Amanda Show'. In 2002, at 16 years of age, she played the main character in 'What I Like About You' aired by the WB network and also appeared in the movie 'The Big Fat Liar', in the role of Kaylee, who is Jason's friend (played by Frankie Muniz), whom she helps to prove that he did indeed write the essay, thus regaining his father's trust.

In 2003, Amanda Bynes bagged the role of Daphne, a girl in search of her father, in the movie 'What A Girl Wants', with Kelly Peterson and Colin Firth playing the roles of her parents. Then, in 2004, at 18 years of age she began shooting for the movie 'Lovewrecked', which was shown in theaters in 2005.

Then Amanda Bynes starred in a comedy named 'She's the Man', in 2006, based on 'Twelfth Night' by William Shakespeare, where she disguises herself as her brother to be able to play in the boys' soccer team because the girls' team does not make it. It was when this movie was released that she expressed her wish to start doing more mature roles.

Then, she got the role of Penny Pingleton in the movie 'Hairspray', an adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical having the same name, which also had John Travolta starring in it. This was Amanda Bynes' first role in a musical, and the movie was released in 2007, increasing her popularity. Next, she appeared in another comedy named 'Sydney White' based on the fairytale 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs', with Matt Long and Sara Paxton co-starring with her.

Amanda Bynes has won the Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards four times in a row, for Favorite Television Actress, from the year 2000 to 2004. She also won the Favorite Television Actress for 'All That' in 2001, and again for 'The Amanda Show' in 2002. Then her role in the 'Big Fat Liar' got her the Favorite Movie Actress Award in 2003, which she won again in 2004 for her role in 'What A Girl Wants'. She was also part of the ensemble when 'Hairspray' won the Critic's Choice Award in 2008.

Recognized as a comedienne with prodigious talent, Amanda Bynes seems to be destined to earn more and more laurels in the career path she has chosen. Plus, she has begun her own fashion line, named 'Dear', which comprises apparel as well as accessories, which was launched on the 16th of August, 2007, after signing a 5-year contract with Steve & Barry's.
