"All Things Work Together For Good"
This is a well-known phrase in the Christian world but is it applicable to everybody? If not, who benefits and who doesn’t?
If you take a quick look around, you can’t say that all things work together for good, can you? I mean what good is in the fact that one guy kills other 15 people and then he commits suicide? Is this what God calls good? No, and I say that because in the Bible God clearly states that He doesn’t want the death of the sinners, He wants them to receive life and be saved.
God doesn’t want unsaved people to die and spend eternity in hell, on the contrary, He wants them turning from their wicked ways to God and receive all God has to offer.
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28
The continuation of this verse, clearly mentioning who can expect these benefits: them that love God. This is a clear distinction right there because there are few people who really love God. Many of us have seen but a form of religion or another with rules and regulations like:"come to the Church every Sunday, give money to the poor, fast and pray, etc". All these look good in themselves but when we do them as an imposed from the exterior for fear of what people might say, all we do is to embrace a form of religion and not God Himself.
It is only when you truly love God that you can live your life for Him not as imposed from the outside but from the inside out. Not living for God because of fear of hell but living for Him out of love as a response to His love manifested in Christ.
When you understand this, nothing else matters but the Bible as it is: powerful and able to change you if you let the seed of God’s word germinate in your heart.
Activism also doesn’t replace serving God out of love. If somebody feels they didn’t do enough (we can always feel we didn’t do enough, there’s always room for more and better) and out of guilt they start doing even more just to cover for a mistake or to clear their conscience, this is again not out of love, but out of a loaded conscience that needs to be cleared. However no amount of activism will ever clear a conscience!
Only Jesus with His sacrifice can offer the peace and cleansing that we need. If we still operate because of some external restrictions, we operate under law and not under grace. No amount of fasting can make God love you more than He already does! No amount of good works can soften God’s heart towards you, He already loves you! So it is not what you do to earn this love, you and I could never earn it anyway but He offers it out of love.
Until we understand that love for God makes you live for Him more than all other exterior rules and regulations, we won’t be able to experience what -living out of love for God- means.
"If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." 1 Corinthians 13:1-8
Therefore all thinks work together for good in your life if you love God and His purposes become your purposes.
Serving God out of love will not determine living in sin! On the contrary, it will free you to life a holy life every day and doing all things because you love God and not motivated by fear.
