All I Wanted Was You

A poem I wrote about a love that I knew was developing, but something that couldn't be.
You said you never knew how I felt
But yet you smile at me, and watch my heart melt
I tried to show you how our friendship was something more
You decided to ignore me, I keep my distance.
Realizing I was hurting and upsetting you
Our revengeful heartache screaming out
"All I wanted was you"

Now can you see? How our friendship is nothing more,
Nothing yet, but a friendship simply pure
Would you deny a chance for happiness?
Deny our forbidden love
When you can feel it too
Your scared heart whispering
"All I wanted was you"

This feeling of love inferable
Breaking, dividing in me two
I look at you
You smile, knowingly to what it does to me
My heart melting, my mask fading
This is what is left
Me, just asking to love and be loved
Is that so much to ask?

My fighting lust,
Screaming out loud, "All I wanted was you"
You tell me it wouldn’t work
Our forbidden love
Wasn’t as easy as I thought
But yet it’s hard to leave you
When we both know our love is still renewed

Yesterday?
Last year, a months memory
Something I plead for you to say
Our memories once lived, once shared
My undying love still lingers in the air
I’m standing here, in front of you
With my heart on my sleeve
Wishing you would see
"All I wanted was you"

My forbidden Love
I only ask for you to acknowledge me
For you to wish the same, for our lives to be rearranged
Month after month, I am patient
Look at me, I’m still here
Waiting for you, only you to see
I don't need anything, anything else
Instead I'll settle for you
I'm giving you my aching heart
At the thought one day you'll remember
All I ever dreamed about was you
