Alexandra the Great: Keep of the Sea - Prologue

Please Comment to let me know if I should continue this story or not.
I kept running as fast as I could. My legs felt weak and my head felt heavy. The leaves crunched behind me and the smells were horrid. I quickly jumped up grabbing a tree branch and pulling myself up. Quietly I perched on the branch waiting for my attacker. Suddenly, I saw the bright glow of the yellow eyes and heard a snarl. I held my ground in the branch watching my attacker's approach. As I saw what my attacker was, I sighed. It was just a dog. With a sigh I dropped out of the tree. The dog wagged it tail and barked. I pet it and then headed on my way home.

When I arrived home, The dog had followed me. It wagged its tail and barked again. My dad was fond of me bringing home stray animals, But I couldn't help bringing them with me. As I opened the door the dog ran inside. The sweet smell of pie drifted out. I walked to the kitchen where my dad was sitting at the table. "You're late" He said. "By ten minutes dad. I'll be on time next time" I said. He shook his head. "You come home ten minutes late, bring home a stray dog and say you'll be on time next time?" He asked looking a little mad. "What dog are you-" just ask I was about to ask, The dog came around the corner. He was a large black dog. His coat was matted and no sign of a collar. "Can we keep him till we find him a home?" I asked my dad. With a sign my dad looked at the dog. "Alexandra, We cannot have a dog that size in an apartment. He needs a lot of space" My dad said. I turned away from him and walked towards the dog. "My dad doesn't want you, So I have to put you outside" I said to the dog. The dog whined as if he understood what I said and trotted towards the door. "Just for tonight" My dad said looking at me sternly. With a smile I hugged my dad and lead the dog to my room.

The dog jumped on my bed and curled up. I went to my drawer and put on my pjs. Once I was done I turned out my light an closed my curtains. I wasn't like normal girls. I didn't attend school. Or I did, But a different type of school. I was a mermaid. Though my dad figured human life would suit us better. It didn't help much when I had powers and such. "So what's your name?" I asked the dog. "Ryder" He said and looked at me. "Ryder eh? Well do you have a home Ryder?" I asked. "No" He said. "Alexandra, You better not be talking to that dog" My father shouted. With a sigh I rolled over, looking away from the dog. Being 16 with no friends was lonely. Especially when my father didn't allow me to talk to other teens my age. Slowly I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.
