Gore, 24, was pulled over at approximately 2:15 a.m. on July 4 for reportedly driving at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. After he was pulled over, the police smelled marijuana and searched the car. The police reportedly found marijuana and numerous prescription drugs including Vicodin, Adderall, Xanax, and Valium. According to the police, there were no prescriptions for the drugs that were found.
Gore was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail’s Intake and Release Center in Santa Ana. His bail was set at $20,000 and he was released shortly before 2 p.m. Gore was alone in his Toyota Prius at the time of his arrest. Damon Micalizzi, director of public and community relations for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Gore "had a very dangerous cocktail of drugs with him." This is not the first time that Gore was arrested. He was arrested in 2002 on suspicion of driving under the influence and again in 2003 for marijuana possession. He settled the charges after attending substance abuse classes.
Former Vice President Gore announced Thursday that his son was getting treatment a day after his arrested. He said, "We love him very much. We are going to leave it as a private matter." He also added, "We are glad he is safe and that he is getting treatment." Gore is currently promoting this weekend’s Live Earth concerts. The younger Gore reportedly faces four drug charges including possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. No word yet on when he is due in court.
