Tricks for Aggressive Inline Skating

There are a number of tricks for aggressive skating which are practiced by inline skating enthusiasts. If you want to check out what is this jazz all about, read on...
Let me tell you one thing before I describe anything else. This is absolutely not for the faint hearted. In case you are, well, handle with care! Okay, now without further delay, let me tell you what am I talking about. The thing I am talking about is aggressive inline skating. Also called aggressive skating, it involves jumping, grinding, sliding and flipping stunts on skates. Very similar to skateboarding, aggressive skating is also all about tricks and stunts. I really admire those who do aggressive skating, that is why I am dedicating this article to them!

Aggressive Inline Skating Techniques

Frontside Grind
This is one of the first few tricks an aggressive skating enthusiast would learn. An individual doing this should always wear safety gear to avoid injuries before doing any trick. Nevertheless, here is how a frontside grind is done.
  • Decide a rail or curb where you want to grind in a moderate speed. Avoid going too slow or too fast as it can hamper the ability to maintain balance during the grind.
  • Keep the focus on the spot on the rail or the curb where you want to start grinding and then jump, taking a spin of 90 degrees so that you go away from the rail.
  • Then land on the rail or curb with your knees bent and feet shoulder apart.
  • The trick is to land on the rail or curb in the area between the 2 middle wheels of the skates.
  • When the grind is over, jump off the rail, or better still before you go off balance. Finally land back with your knees still bent, on the sidewalk.
If you are looking for a simple trick on aggressive skates then this is the one and it falls in the category of street skating.

Vert
Vert, short for vertical is a style of skating, that is performed under half pipe. So the style is vert, and the trick is called the half pipe. For a half pipe, start by skating up on one side of the ramp and then coming back down in a backward motion with knees bent. Pump is a bit modified version of this. In a pump, as you go up ahead, press with your legs to stand up on the edge keeping one foot in front of the other. This is one of those tricks which are done in special skating parks with ramps.

Acid
When done properly, this trick can look really trendy. Let's check out how to do this one.
  • Start skating towards the spot meant for the grind in a moderate speed. The more speed you have the easier it is to balance.
  • Now jump and at the same time lock the foot which has the soul plate in the obstacle.
  • Simultaneously lock the non souling foot in place and inside of the foot at 90 degrees, facing out.
  • The best bet is to try to keep most of the weight on the foot with the soul plate to get a good balance.
  • Finally, jump off normally or spin, if you are willing to experiment!
Spins
This is amongst the jazziest stunts in aggressive skating. Here is how to do it.
  • For a spin, get your balance right first, with feet shoulder width apart. Follow that by rotating the torso in the direction of the spin you want to spin.
  • Now rotate the torso in the desired direction smoothly with moderate force to maintain the balance throughout the spin.
  • This has to be practiced moving backwards and forwards both to improve and add jumps to your skating repertoire.
This trick can be done on the streets in a vert or even in a park and is a basic inline skating stunt.

The mantra to do these tricks is to be bold and fearless and to try to innovate and experiment as much as possible. Once you are done with basic aggressive skating, it is easy to be a bit more adventurous and turn on your skating charm! All the best!
