AED's--The Specs That Matter Most

Cut through the hype and find out which AED spec really matter.
AEDs are small, portable devices that evaluate heart rhythms, provide on-scene operators with voice-prompted instructions and, where appropriate, can deliver a lifesaving shock to victims of SCA (Sudden Cardiac Arrest).

In the opinion of Richard Hamburg (director of governmental relations for the American Heart Association) "The availability of a defibrillator is a life-and-death matter for someone suffering cardiac arrest".

There are a dozen or better AEDs (Automatic External Defibrillators) available to choose from. So, what can a Zoll Defibrillator offer you that no other AED can??

3 Reasons Why You Should Consider a ZOLL Defibrillator

(Sudden Cardiac Arrest) situation, an SCA victim collapses and is unresponsive. Qualified help shows up with an AED and attaches the AED electrodes to the victim. Then the AED tells everybody not to touch the victim while his heart rhythm is being analyzed.

This is where things get interesting...
At this point, one of two things can take place: 1) The AED will recommend shock or 2) the AED will NOT recommend shock - because there isn't a "shockable" rhythm.

I'll repeat that: if the AED can't find a shockable rhythm, the AED won't deliver a shock. Instead, the AED will recommend the rescuer to "Begin CPR."

Did you know... that in 57.4% of all SCA instances NO shock will be recommended? This means that 57.4% of the time rescuers will not be able to "lean on" the AED for support. Unless...the AED comes with CPR support.

When it comes to CPR support ZOLL Defibrillators are at the top of their class. ZOLL Defibrillators provide step-by-step voice prompts and visual screen displays to guide rescuers through the the steps of CPR.

This way, if the chest compressions you administer are too shallow, the ZOLL Defibrillator will tell you to "press harder". Or, if your compressions are acceptable, the AED will respond "Good compressions". The ZOLL Defibrillator also comes with a beeping metronome to help pace you as you administer chest compressions.

2. ZOLL Defibrillators are the most cost effective defibrillators available.

Simply put, you'll pay a bit more for a ZOLL Defibrillator up front. But, in the long run, you'll pay less when it comes to replacing expensive batteries and defibrillator pads.

3. In a side-by-side comparison, run by Harvard University, they discovered that lay rescuers performed more precisely with a ZOLL Defibrillator than any other AED.
