Advice on Buying a New Laptop

Buying a new laptop doesn't have to be tough task if you know what to look for.
Laptops are finally becoming powerful enough to replace their desktop counterparts and the prices are surprisingly affordable. With a great selection offered by all manufacturers, buying a new laptop could be right up your alley and there may very well be a laptop that perfectly suits your needs. The most important thing to note before buying a new laptop is making sure that it is future proof so that it can last for years and not feel too dated when it comes to the specifications.

What are laptops?

Laptops or notebooks are computers that have all the features of a desktop while sacrificing upgradable parts. They still excel in speed and performance while slower laptops are more portable and have better battery life.

Pros and cons

Laptops have a leading edge when compared to netbooks because of their bigger screens and faster processing power, graphics capabilities, and storage capacity. Multitaskers will find laptops convenient to use as most of the latest ones have high amounts of RAM. Battery life isn't much of a major issue these days as many of the latest models are environmental friendly and use the latest operating systems that are friendly on battery life. They are also outfitted with several functions that make the laptop more versatile including memory card readers, biometrics, built-in webcams, and extra wireless options for wireless Internet and connectivity with other wireless devices.

On the downside, laptops are still quite limited when it comes to upgrade options. You are out of luck if you wish to upgrade the processor and graphics card, but you can still upgrade the RAM and hard disk up to a certain extent although these components are a bit more expensive than their PC equivalents.

What to look for

The trick is to find a laptop that will suit your needs right now and contains a little bit of extra features that you might find more useful in the future. If you don't really need extra features, try to find a good laptop that exceeds your expectations a little bit so it will take longer to age.

The different brands and types

Dell, HP, ASUS, Acer, Toshiba, Fujitsu, Apple, and many other major manufacturers are competing against each other in the laptop market. Their laptops target different audiences including regular users, business users, gamers, professionals, and other groups of people. The multimedia laptops are amongst the most powerful having advanced components and higher system specs. You can also find different colors including pink laptop computers.

How much are they?

Laptops can come off as low as $300, which is slightly more than netbooks, where as mid-range units fall in the $900 and $1000 range. More powerful laptops can rise above $2000.

Where to buy one

Some electronic stores and retailers may sell a few laptops, but you can find even more in local computer stores. Online stores are worth a look too.

When deciding which laptop to get, simply take the time you need to explore the different laptop options and figure out what advantages this one laptop has over the other, then make your final decision based on your budget.
