Advantages of LED - Backlit LCD TVs Compared to Traditional LCD TVs
The LED TV is now one of the latest products in home entertainment. With all of the acronyms that are present in the market it is very difficult to keep up with what they all mean. But for those who want to be in the know, it is a new product that is becoming more and more popular.
LCD and LED, it is difficult to distinguish between the two. On the one hand LED stands for light emitting diode and LCD stands for light crystal display. The second one is probably a term that we are more familiar with and the two technologies do work together with LED being used as a backlight in LCD TVs. Traditional LCD TVs normally mainly use cold cathode fluorescent lamps or CCFLs for the backlighting. The new LED-backlit LCD TVs use more of the light emitting diode for the backlight.
It is not likely that one would find a true LED TV in the form of a normal television size. This is because the technology is too big for a single pixel and so you are going to find that the only screens that are truly LED are those of the size that one would find in a sports stadium. You would have to have a very big lounge to fit in a screen like that.
The recent launch of an LED range by Samsung led to a bit of an uproar in the broader technology industry. The company's competitors said that in a way this was false advertising because there is no such thing as a true LED TV. But the company has argued that given the fact that there is a higher percentage of LED technology in the product as opposed to LCD, they are within their rights to give the products the names that they have.
A key point of distinction between the LED LCD TV and the normal LCD TV is that the use of the LED as a backlighting device means that there is a greater picture quality to be enjoyed. Viewers see that the shadows stand out more and this means that all the images are clearer.
The LED backlit TVs are expected to fly off the shelves for many reasons. Firstly of course is the fact that the picture quality is so much better than traditional LCD TVs. The second reason is one that generally makes people feel good about themselves because it has to do with the fact that there is a forty percent reduction in the amount of electricity that is used to power the units. So there is a definite advantage for this product environmentally. These LED TVs are also much thinner than the previous traditional LCD or plasma TVs.
The LED-backlit TV is the next wave in the revolution of the TV. Sony started the revolution and the LED TV is now here to stay. We can now look forward to thinner, lighter, and more energy efficient TVs that also has greater image quality.
