Adam Lambert Inks Record Deal, Media Spotlight Just Keeps Shining
Just one day after Kris Allen signed a record deal, Adam Lambert, the presumptive favorite on the show until the finale, gets his own deal
When Kris Allen - winner of the most recent season of American Idol – signed a record deal on Monday, many were wondering how long it would take for Adam Lambert to follow suit. Well, just one day later, and amidst coming out of the closet in the most recent issue of Rolling Stone, Lambert signed a deal of his own. Lambert’s debut album, which is licensed to RCA Records, is set to release this Fall.
Said Lambert, "I'm thrilled that we've come to a creative and collaborative partnership and look forward to developing a really exciting album. We are 100 percent on the same page and are all anxiously awaiting the start of the recordings. It's going to be ridiculous! Get ready!" Lambert, who was thought by many to be the clear favorite to win American Idol, ended up finishing second, with much conjecture that his sexual orientation counted against him with voters. At 27, Lambert has time for a long musical career, and will begin work on his first professional album shortly, with recording sessions to take place over the summer. He’ll record while on the road for a planned 50-city American Idol tour, which will begin on July 15 in Portland, Oregon.
Oddly, Lambert, before even recording an album, already has had four singles reach the Billboard Hot 100 charts, most notably his version of "Mad World." Barry Weiss, chairman of the RCA/JIVE record label, explained that unusual situation: "There are no longer any rules in terms of where the world’s next superstars may come from. We are thrilled to be getting involved with Adam Lambert as we all at RCA Records believe he is one of those rare, future global stars."
