Adam Lambert Confirms that He’s Gay – Shocker!
Stop the presses, alert the bloggers and shout out from the top of the highest mountain tops – Adam Lambert confirms that he’s gay.
Adam Lambert, gracing the cover of the latest Rolling Stone magazine, has finally "officially" come out of the closet. Never mind that even people who have never watched American Idol or heard him sing already knew that – it’s now NEWS! Lambert, looking totally "off the hook gay" on the cover of the music rag, appears in makeup, chest exposed and draped in long necklaces, and with a green snake crawling up the leg of his black jeans. In deference to the fact that everyone in the world already knows that he’s gay, Lambert came "out" by saying in the magazine article, "I don’t think it should be a surprise for anyone to hear that I’m gay."
Having cleared that up, Lambert goes on to say, "I’m proud of my sexuality. I embrace it. It’s just another part of me." Despite that, Lambert made it clear that he has no interest in acting as a gay rights activist, or in being the "poster boy" for the movement. "I’m trying to be a singer, not a civil rights leader," noted the singer in his interview with Rolling Stone writer Vanessa Grigoriadis.
Lambert goes on to admit that he was nervous about coming out of the closet while American Idol was still running because contestants are instructed (and legally obligated) from engaging the media during their tenure on the show. He also notes that he wanted to come out on his "own terms." Said Lambert, "I was worried that [coming out of the closet] would be so sensationalized that it would overshadow what I was there to do, which was sing. I’m an entertainer, and who I am and what I do in my personal life is a separate thing. It shouldn’t matter. Except it does. It’s really confusing."
