If you doctor has prescribed Adalat for treatment of your high blood pressure you should read this important information regarding the safety and .......
What is Adalat?

Adalat is a dihydropyridine calcium blocker medication. Physicians generally prescribe Adalat for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension) and Angina Pectoris. Adalat may also be prescribed for treating Raynaud’s phenomenon and Tetanus. Procardia and Nifedical are the brand named drugs of Adalat. Both of these medications contain the same active ingredient, nifedipine.

Adalat—How Does It Work?

Adalat works by acting on the blood vessels within the body including the heart. Adalat lowers the calcium in muscle cells. Calcium is required in order for muscle cells to contract therefore lowering Calcium causes the muscle cells to relax. The ingredient nifedipine treats the diseases by acting on the blood vessels and the heart. The drug lowers the presence of calcium in the muscle cells. Since calcium is required by muscle cells to contract, restricting the calcium content causes the muscle cells to relax. Since Adalat works on relaxing arteries it allows arteries to expand allowing better blood flood and reducing the blood pressure.

Side Effects

Like all prescription medications, Adalat may cause some side effects. These side effects differ from patient to patient. Some of these side effects include dizziness, headache, tiredness, flushed skin, constipation, abdominal pain, vomiting, edema in the ankles (swelling), fast heart rate, visual disturbances, itching, sweating, skin rashes, impotence, and depression.

How to Take Adalat

It is important that your doctor take a very thorough medical history before prescribing Adalat. Be sure to tell your physician about any medications, including over the counter and herbal medications, that you are taking. Certain medications are contraindicated while using Adalat. Rifampicine should not be taken with Adalat as it can cause an unsafe drop in blood pressure. While on Adalat you may experience faintness or dizziness. Make sure to tell your doctor of any side effects you experience while on Adalat as your dosage may need to be adjusted or a different medication prescribed for the treatment of your high blood pressure.

Precautions while taking Adalat

While Adalat may be the best choice for your high blood pressure treatment it may not be beneficial to everyone. Pregnant women should avoid Adalat as it can result in birth defects. Adalat is excreted in breast milk so nursing mothers should avoid Adalat. If you are allergic to calcium blockers like felodipine and amlodipine you should not take Adalat. Adalat should be avoided by patients being treated for heart disorders, children, or patients suffering from porphyries or blood disorders. If you are diabetic, elderly, or suffering from kidney and liver problems use caution while on Adalat.

Purchasing Adalat

Adalat can be purchased from your local pharmacy or online. If purchased online be sure to purchase Adalat from an authentic site. You should also find Adalat to be much cheaper if purchased from an online drug store. This is not because it is not authentic but because online drug stores do not have the same overhead costs as brick and mortar stores thereby able to offer medications at much lower prices. Even if you have insurance you may find Adalat online to be less expensive than the co-payments or deductibles you pay now.
