Acute Stress: 4 Steps to Ease Away the Effect

Stress evidence shows that acute stress is a factor in the following major conditions: depressed immune function, Alzheimer’s disease, arthritis, cancer, cardiovascular disease, endocrine dysfunction, insulin resistance and diabetes, macular degeneration, neurological dysfunction, and obesity. All of these conditions can happen as the aftermath of the psychological shock. Here I share four steps to reduce acute stress consequences.
You can find a lot of material written about the daily stress, also called chronic stress. However sometimes, chronic stress is initiated by one terrifying event. In the moment of immediate threat, either physical or psychological, mind’s perception of threat triggers the response. This reaction is called acute stress.

Acute stress may be brief in duration, but it is intense physiologically. During it, the autonomic nervous system is stimulated raising levels of cortisol, adrenalin and other hormones. At this moment, the breathing and the heart beat become faster. Acute stress has a special effect on the brain; it increases alertness and decreasing the perception of pain. The blood rushes to the brain, lungs, heart, and the big muscles, preparing the body to fight or run away.

Stress evidence shows that acute stress is a factor in the following health states: depressed immune function, cardiovascular disease, endocrine dysfunction, neurological dysfunction (Parkinson’s disease), Alzheimer’s disease, arthritis, cancer, diabetes, and obesity. All of these conditions can begin with one psychological shock. This is why it is not advisable to suppress angry or sad feelings. To stay healthy we need to get rid of stress effects regularly. Otherwise, it will pile up and take over the health.

I use 4 steps to ease up the effects of acute stress. Try them, for your benefit.
  1. At first you always need to calm down your nerves. To move might be the best way to change your thoughts. Running, walking, boxing, dancing, jumping on a jump rope can help your body release stress. You can literally walk away from the harmful effects of acute stress.
  2. To realize the tension and relax the muscles, I use stretching. Generally, stretching improves circulation and develops mental alertness. As for myself, after stretching I feel so relaxed that I could immediately fall asleep. Because, stretching is a natural and instinctive activity, your muscles will guide you.
  3. After a stressful situation it is recommended to also relax the brain. To do so, I use lemon balm and essential oils. Prescribed as a medical herb since ancient Greek times, lemon balm has long been known to relieve anxiety, promote sleep, and sooth agitation. By their nature, essential oils are antibacterial. This is useful in times of stress when the immune system may be destabilized. Usually essential oils are sold in the very concentrated form. To dilute them, use olive oil or sweet almond oil. You can make relaxing massage oil with 6 drop of lavender oil combined with 10 drops of sweet almond oil. The scents of the oils directly affect the most primitive and emotional center of the brain, the limbic system. So, to calm raw nerves and promote restful sleep, try to make different blends from lavender, sandalwood, chamomile, and ylang ylang. Other oils like grapefruit, mandarin, and apple oils are better suited to stimulate and energize when the stress outcome includes exhaustion.
  4. There is probably no system in the body that is more affected by mind-body influences than the digestive tract. Stress can cause those familiar knots in the stomach. Many people experience constipation or diarrhea. All of that can lead to further health problems. Colon cleansing supports health of the digestive system and help the body to recover from the effects of acute stress. The 30-day colon cleanse program will move the toxins produced by stress from your body. It works to improve nutrient absorption, so your cells will stop starving. I, personally, found colon cleansing as very easy to follow up method of improving digestion and general health. After the 30-day colon cleansing program, I felt energized and full of power.
