Self-esteem is essential for a person to be confident and hence, successful in life. There are several activities that can help in building self-esteem in people.
Self-esteem is defined as the pride in yourself, accepting yourself as you are and thinking positive. People with self-pride have faith in themselves and are self-assured. On the contrary, people with low self-confidence always have a feeling of worthlessness. What should be done to build self-esteem? There are various self-help as well as group activities that will help you for the same.

Activities to Build Self-Esteem
  • In order to have positive thoughts, stick posters with positive, inspirational thoughts in your bedroom. Read these thoughts the first thing in the morning everyday and you will feel great.
  • You must do something creative everyday or at least try to learn a new thing. Pursue your interests or any other thing that will help you feel better. You can even read inspiring books and mark or write down the quotes and lines that you find special and enlivening.
  • You should even try to help someone with little things or be kind to people. Meet people whom you like to be with and maintain good company with positive thoughts.
  • Exercise regularly to have a healthy body and a peaceful mind. You can even go in for a makeover as one definitely feels good when one looks good.
Activities for Kids

It is extremely important for parents and teachers to build self-esteem in children by encouraging and appreciating the things they do. Children look up to their parents and hence, it is very essential for parents to have a positive attitude and approach. Paying adequate attention is the most important aspect of building self-esteem in children.
  • Parents should involve children in household chores and appreciate them for any help they offer. You can involve them in trivial activities like helping set the table for dinner, getting the mail, putting groceries in the fridge, etc. Children love to get involved and will also have a feeling of accomplishment.
  • If the child shows inclination towards any particular sport or a form of art, parents must encourage him in every way. Parents must praise and promote their child to build his self-esteem.

  • In a group, every person is given cards with names of all the people present and everyone has to write good qualities and appealing things about every other person. Later, you can read aloud what's written on all the cards.
  • Your group can volunteer in an NGO or a community organization. Helping people will definitely boost your self-worth and also give a sense of accomplishment.
  • One of the group activities for self-esteem is having a group discussion. Select a particular subject and give everyone a chance to present their thoughts. You can even allot different themes to different people and ask them to pen down their ideas. Initially people may feel inhibited but this is a sure way to build up confidence.
